Ted- It looks to be one of the old strap releases- I can't recall the originator but they made the rounds in the very late 60s or early 70s if my memory serves. That one looks to be little used if at all. Neat item,     Grant

I think it was Black Widow/Wilson Bros that made these. The strap went around the string and the thumb held the strap by friction against the side of the palm handle. The last two fingers slipped into the adjustable loop on the top. Relax the thumb pressure slight and the string was gone. I use to hunt with a variation of this idea.
The release on top is a homemade version of C. R. Learn's Bow lock. This was an exciting release to shoot. String sat on the edge/ledge and a slight twist would let the string go. Sometimes this could happen on the draw and the bowlock ends up in you jaw.
The bottom strap tab is what I have used hunting.
The red handled strap release in the center is my homemade version of the one that Ted posted.

You got it Grant! Yes it is a release aide called the strap tab, made by Wilson Bros. Black Widow.
I messed around with it a bit, ( no lightning did not hit me). Works well and could see why the idea was popular at that time period.
Bow Doc , you cheated , I already spoke with you on this and sent you a pic.
What do you think about that little broad head picture I sent you as well bud?

It's a Black Widow Strap Tab. They made two models - an A Model for Chin-Rest and a B Model for Cheek-Rest. It was also available in three sizes, and it retailed for $9.95 in 1970.

The model show above is the B Model. The idea was that you put your hand around the molded part (bottom right), the strap (left) went around the bowstring and was pressed up and held against the release below the cheek rest (left center) by the shooters thumb. Then the bow was drawn. To release the arrow, relax your thumb.

It actually worked pretty darn well...if you had a strong thumb.
