I would like to hear from other collectors that would be interested in having a Vintage Archery Collectors Show and Swap Meet. I'm in Michigan and would like to organize a Meet at say Grand Rapids Hilton INN? next year.As any show, you show up early (Thursday or Friday), do swapping in your block of rooms, then on Saturday have one of the banquet rooms with a Archery Collector Show(Displays) and Swap Meet open to the public. If there is any interest let me know...Roy

Yes,I think Its a great idea.I would love to participate.Rick....

Roy, I have never been to Michigan and would love an excuse to head your way. What time of year were you thinking? Keep us posted. Thanks
-
Boy, it sure depends on money and time, etc., but if there is any way I could swing it when we are out visiting my wife's family next year, I'd be there like white on rice!
Oregon is a long way to come for just that, but I would sure make it a major part of our visit next year if there is any way I could work it out.

Roy you know I would be there....

Ron I'm in Palmer Alaska and thinking about going! OK yes Mom and Dad live in west branch so I'd have more than one reason to go.
-
It would have to be the off season, say late winter, early spring before bear season. I'll be doing some research on discount room rates ect.
-
Roy, You can count me in.
I know around the first weekend in Feb, there's a Kalamazoo Traditional.Expo and a week or two after there's a big Michigan Deer Spectacular sports show in Lansing I set up at both and then they have one in Grand Rapids also but haven't been there. Any help just let me know.
Hink... :archer:

Roy:
That's basically what happens at the ABCC annual meeting in Michigan.
There may also be exactly such a meet next year in Nebraska if I can get plans worked out.
Contact me and I can fill you in.

Oh,now that sounds interesting.Would be a lot of fun.

Roy, why not do this in conjunction with the Compton Rendezvous? That would give folks a "double reason" to be in the area, so we could have a a better chance of getting a big turn out.

Don't know if you have been to Compton, but the American Broadhead Collector's Club (ABCC) had their meeting there this year and voted to have it there in 2010.
We had the entire building filled with mostly broadheads and arrows.
Some of the guys with larger collections only bring a small fraction of their collections because of the very limited space at Compton which I believe is roughly 50' x 65' of display space, or over 3,000 sq feet.
I would guess for bow collectors you would probably need at least 2 or 3 times as much space depending on how many guys came and what they brought.
You would have to establish some specific criteria for the show, such as exactly what could be shown, cost of the tables or space for display, if you wanted to feature one of more of the largest collections of specific bows, etc.
In the past many of us who have shown collections of broadheads, arrows, bows at different functions and have portable displays that can be transported fairly easily.

I will still be looking into having a vintage traditional archery show in Michigan for spring of 2010, a swap meet with a display area for archery items made in 1960 (50 yr anniversary) if the show is a success we could do 1961 the following year and keep going through the 70's.
Anyone could display their items from the chosen year, we would have it open to the public and encourage them to bring along their dusty archery items to show the guys and sell if they like. I have been getting some input and will have some info by the new year.

Sounds interesting. It would give many of us a chence to meet those we have never met.
-
Roy – As Jack says would be wonderful to meet those we have not met and renew old friendships with those we already know.
You have a great idea to display only items from 1960 as a Commemoration of their 50th Anniversary of production. Such a display alone should be a tremendous draw.
The fantastic thing about 1960 items is that if they in good condition, many of them are as functional today as they were the day they were made and rival items being produced today for functionality. Would give all a chance to see and feel many of those 1960 items that are still being used by bowmen all across the country.
I will offer to provide a commemorative gift of a very nice 1960 item, free of charge for all who display items in the exhibit area.
Undoubtedly, the Swap Meet part you mentioned would be a blast for everyone.
