Well the bow that that supposedly is a Ben Pearson Palomino arrived today and I have to say that first impressions are not good at all.
There are no decals at all just the serial number 0-1425 5ft 2" , 50#@28.
The wood has none of the amazing grain and workmanship that I have seen on other members bows and I am beginning to think the *bay has sunk me on this one.....
Any help on identifying it from the serial number would be apreciated - will try to get some pics in a while.
cheers

Tubby,
Do you have any photos you could post?

Tubby, Bill from Alaska again. Sorry that what we suspected seemed to be true, but it is a pretty bow. After last weeks thread I think that it is most likely a javelina or some other pearson. I know it's not what you wanted........ Do you have any recourse? Or contact the broker in form of a negative feedback? Just hate to see get something on faulty info. Info on pearson serial numbers is sketchy at best from what I have found, but all pearsons that I have had not only have a serial # but a CAT # to indicate model. Bill

Tubby,
When I get home this afternoon, I'll double check, but that SN looks like a Sovereign type number. I have several Sovereigns (various models) that I can check. Here's what I found on Archery Archives (search = sovereign) under Golden Sovereign:
Golden Conqueror, 1961, No. 1006, 62 inches
Fully recurved limbs
40 to 75 pounds
Brace height 7 to 7 1/2 inches
red glass
Pistol grip, high center shot window
Colorful combination of hardwoods in handle
$49.50
Golden Monarch, 1961, No. 1004, 62 inches
Fully recurved limbs
25 to 60 pounds(measured at 26 inches)
Brace height 7 to 7 1/2 inches
white glass
Pistol grip, high center shot window
Colorful combination of hardwoods in handle
$69.50
The Golden Monarch handle looks very similar to your bow, but it came with white glass. I could only find where it was made in '61 and '62.
I'll let you know about the SN later this evening.

Tubby,
Here's what I found on my Pearsons. Even my Sovereigns have the Cat #, 1097, 1094, etc. It seems that most of the bows after 1958 have a serial number that starts with the last 2 digits of the Cat #. My Hunter, Cat # 709, has an S.N. that begins with 09-XXXX. My oldest Mercury Hunter, Cat # 1096, has the S.N. beginning with 96-XXXX. 1958 was the first year that BP's had names, prior to this they had only Cat #'s. In 1968, a 0 (zero) was added to the end of the Cat #-my Hunter became a 7090. Early on, the length was shown as 5'6", 5'4", etc. Eventually they changed it (I'm not sure when), to inches, after 1958 for sure. I have a Safari that is listed as 5'6", they were only made in '58 and '59.
Hope this helps.

Phil & Bill - thanks for the time and effort on the research much appreciated. The bride has misplaced the digital camera but will send some pics when I can.
