Title: Old bow id
Post by: Stringfollow on July 05, 2009, 10:10:00 PM
I have an old longbow and would appreciate any info anyone could give on it.It is about 72in nock to nock (missing bottom horn nock)feels like a lite wood, braied string handle, has a wrapping a few inches below each nock. The belly is shapley arched just outside the handle then tapers to a more rounded belly,no name or markings, leather wrappings at each end of handle.I tried to post pics but can't get it to work yet. thanks

It looks an awful lot like a Stemmler I have "Circa 1931" But definitely not a match

thanks for the reply Earl,I was wondering if your bow's belly is stacked sharply right off the handle or is more rounded.I received another bow the same time as this one,but it is shorter (65in)with a more common rounded belly right up to the green plush grip,I believe it is lemonwood. The only markings on it is a (315) stamped into the back of the bow just above the handle. The reson I ask about the belly shape is because I think it may be useful in dating the bow since it seems uncommon. Thanks
