I am looking to purchase a Bear SCABBARD quiver to bolt on Grumley repro that I will hunt with and it needs to be LEFT handed.I am not sure if they are reversible somehow.
Please touch base with info on one.
Thanks a bunch

Tom - LH Scabbards are usually tough to find, (especially if you are looking for one). However, a RH Scabbard can be made into a LH pretty easily, but the lower bracket is not reversible, it will need to be replaced.
Just remove the lower RH bracket that screws to the quiver and replace it with a LH bracket from a Bear leather cap. The scabbard is a 3-Arrow quiver, so you will want to use a 3-Arrow Gripper. There will be an empty slot on the inside of the bracket where the 4th arrow would have been. Not 100% original like a real LH Scabbard, but will be an option if you can not find a LH Scabbard.
I have two different LH Scabbards in my collection, but no extra LH. Have a couple extra RH Scabbards so let me know if you can not find a LH and want to change a RH to a LH.

bla bla bla what the heck do you need a quiver for ? It seemed to work pretty darn good last week without a quiver....your twin brother bd (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii175/bowdocsarchery/bearquest-lll/bearquest077.jpg)

What a Beautiful bow that is !!!! And the arrow was just as nice with that snake skin wrap and flint point. Real nice setup.

Tom - Sorry the PM box was full. I just cleaned out a few messages and it works again.
In your email, you asked "How much for RH scabbard you have?"
When I looked at the two extra Scabbards, I discovered there was actually a difference in them, which I'd never realized before and did not have in the collection. I put the odd duck in the quiver collection.
Will send you the other one for free. It may be hard to negoitate a better price than that. It's far from mint.
Consider it your reward for causing me to discover the difference. PM me your mailing address & I'll get it out to you tomorrow. Sorry, I don't have any LH leather Cap that you can use to hijack the lower bracket off of.
Probably not going to make it to Denton as just realized a couple of days ago that the Nebraska Trad bow building workshop is that weekend and want to take my Grumley bows there. Hopefully the bows will help some guys get interested in making Grumley repros.
Is your Grumley repro a self bow or laminated?

Wade,
Darn what an offer Thank You !! The Grumley is laminated (not Glass backed) with Banded water snake I obtained,Hickory/Walnut/Osage.The search is on know for Leather cap lower bracket.
Do I need to do any repair to Scabbard you are sending ? I would love to see your Grumley collection someday I love those style static tip bows.I have a real cool J.Brooks Grumley repro I have arrowed a couple critters with.
Did Nels make many all Osage or all one type wood static tips ?
Thank Again Very Much

Tom - In order to make the scabbard usable, you will need to replace the 3-arrow gripper. Actually I have never seen a scabbard that still had a plyable arrow gripper that could be used. Those scabbard arrow grippers were made from a material that has not kept its flexibility over the past +/- 60 years. The leather caps have a molded gripper that is better but many of them are also too hard to use. The leather is worn on this scabbard, but other than a new arrow gripper, it is still very useful.
The 1930s and early 1940s Grumley bows are self bows. Most of his hunting bows are osage and only have one of his hunting bows made of yew, they are rare. Most of the Grumley target bows that are solid wood are made of yew.
Most laminated Grumley bows are 3-laminations, hickory back, yew core and osage belly. They began to appear in the early 1940s.
Nels made his static tips of the Deerslayer and the Bush Bow using several different wood combinations. Sometimes he used just one wood type, like all yew. Sometimes he used alternating colored woods for contrast, sometimes with just a few laminations and others with many laminations. Sometimes he also alternated the color of the laminations in the handle section to match the alternating colors of the tips. He was truly an artist with his bow making as well as every thing that he made.
I have seen a few of the Brooks repro Grumley bows - they are very nicely made.
Like the 1959 Kodiak, there is nothing quite like an original Grumley. However, unlike the 1959 Kodiak, I don't recommend shooting an original Grumley bow. Although I have shot a few original Grumleys and know others who have too, it is best to do as you have done, and get a nice repro to shoot.

Wade,
Thanks for the info on the Grums.Someday maybe I will purchase an Original Grumley, but seems to make more sense to have ones that you can use and I like hunting with them so repro fits the bill.
Thanks Again.
Tom
P.S. I will get new & improved arrow gripper for Scabbard you are sending and when I get it all in tact will post pic.

Tom ,
Makes a lot more sense to buy any archery tackle that can be used. Us guys who buy this old stuff to catch dust, are crazy. We should all have our heads examined.
Mailed the Scabbard to you on Friday. She's no queen, but you may be able to get enough lipstick on her to get her to the prom.

There's nothing wrong with taking an ugly date to the prom as long as she does what's expected.

Tom,
Glad the scabbard quiver arrived OK and that you will put it to good use.
Although it won't win any beauty contest, it may prove to be special because it was one of the Scabbard quivers in the John Grumley Collection of his Father's bows....
Hopefully it will bring you the best of luck on your hunts with your repro Grumley bow...
