I am debating with myself whether or not I should add overlays on the Alaskan I am refinishing. The tips are good but I wonder if they would be better protected with overlays. I really like overlays too and I imagine orange/black/orange would look really nice on this Alaskan. Would this be heresy? I could try and reproduce the 59 Polar overlays.
So what do you guys think
Overlays or no overlays.

Oh yeah Simon I say go for it.I love adding a little personal touch to any bow.As for strength do to the limb tip disign and the super smooth hand work done around the string noc's on those type bows they did not need overlays but I still like the looks of them.bd

OK. Debate over.
I’m going to add overlays.
Where can one find small quantities of black and orange fiberglass?
I could try to make my own paper phenolic. I found a thread Kurt started explaining how he does it.

I would prefer fiberglass though.

You can get black and white from Bingham products and color the white orange with a marker pen.

Simon send me your address and I will send you some black glass.
Not sure where or even if orange is available.

Hey Bert.
Thanks for the help. I’ll PM you with my address. I won’t need much.
I’m still on the lookout for orange fiberglass.
I found the right color plastic, I wonder if that could do?

Bert is graciously sending me black fiberglass for the overlays.
Thanks Bert.
I am on the hunt for orange now. I started a thread on the Boyer’s Bench.

I still have white fiberglass so I might try Bjorn’s tip and use a orange marker. Would prefer orange fiberglass though...
