Found an old red phenolic Super Kodiak, 60" and 55#, at a yard sale, picked it up for $25. Anybody else have one of these?
-
I thought April Fools was two weeks ago?
-
I guess i could use a beater bow.
Wanna double your money?
-
I might burn it in the campfire to see that phenolic sizzle! :)
-
That's just plain cruel, ;^)

I actually have a couple of them myself but my camera is not working right now..bd

I think someone is yankin' yer chain. The mysterious "RED KODIAK" was not a Super Kodiak...It was a Kodiak. At least that is my understanding.
Ya got ripped off... :smileystooges:
-
Are they valuable????
I just sold mine at our yard sale for $25.00.
Guess I should have asked more

The Red Kodiak does exist.I met Bowdoc a few years back at Denton Hills and showed it to him. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures I will try to get some on.

Wow, was that an experimental Kodiak? What’s the serial number, I can’t quite read it. I kind of like the offset Bear coin. The phenolic is more brown than red on my computer screen, is it red in real life? Cool bow for sure but the red Super Kodiak has yet to be shown on this site...
Thanks for the pics, I have a 66 Kodiak also but mine is of the regular type. I would be curious to see the tips on yours.

If that is the one I am thinking of, I saw it for auction on e8ay. The pictures there had the phenolic as blood red. The picture here appears as brown, as Simon stated.
The storry the guy posted on e8ay was that he went to the Bear Museum in Greyling and Papa Bear was behind the counter. He told Mr Bear what weight he wanted in a 60" Kodiak. Fred lookd through a few bows and could not find one the right weight. He told the guy to hold on that he had something in the back that might work for him. He brought out the red Kodiak. He explained that it was an experamental prototype and only one was made like it. He would sell it for the same price as a regular Kodiak. Obviously the guy took it.
As I remember, it was sold on e8ay in original condition...not refinished, and still looked very clean.
I bid on it several times but as it came close to the end of the auction, my drool shorted out my keyboard. If it recall corectly it wemt for 100's of dollars...real high. Just got out of my reach at the time. Been kicking myself for not selling at least my first born to raise the money. If that is the bow, it is priceless. In my opinion, worth more than a Rosewood Signature commerotive takedown in a walnut case.
If the color is off in the picture, see if you can post better pictures, I would love to copy and save it, which I wish I had done whrn it was on e8ay
I can see the serial number is 6E5_ _. 6 = 1966 E would be for Expiramental. If the only other number is the "5" that would be number 5 in the '66 Expiramental series. How many other expiramental bows that year? Who knows
-
I would love to see more pics of this bow..
-
Very cool, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Zip thats one cool bow right there.bd

Now that I think about it, seems like the one I saw on e8ay had the handle grip section in wood and the rest of the riser was blood red phenolic.
Bear probably made several different versions of the Expiramental bows that year, one probably being an all black Phenolic, which was adopted for the 1967-1/2 Super Kodiak. "The Black Kight" as I call it. Or the "Paladin Bow"
Any one of those E models would be a one of a kind and unique unto itself...well worth having.

8 yrs ago is about when I saw it on e8ay, but I don't think it was yours.
In any case, yours is a real keeper.
