Title: MYSTERY (TO ME) BEAR
Post by: SELFBOW19953 on April 04, 2009, 01:08:00 PM
I need a little guidance, please.  I have done my best to put into practice what Wade has told me.  Here's my quandry.  A new to me 64", double shelf Bear, red glass on back and belly.  There is no decal identifying the model, but there is the Patented 1953 decal and the large bear decal. So, if I have this correct, double shelf means post '53 (corroborated by the patented 1953 decal).  The decals mean pre '56.  Double shelf and red glass could mean a '54 grizzly, but the length is wrong 64" vs 62", and the limb shape is wrong.  Here are pictures.

Something was in this hole, but what?  Looks like wood in there.

So, what do I have?

Thanks.

I suspected it was one of the "other" Bear bows, just unsure which one.  I've got a similar vintage Cub with pea green belly glass and black back glass, only it's 62".

It's a '55 Polar 'semi-recurve'.  From '50-54 the Polars were a reflexed longbow.  Bear switched over the the semi-recurve in '55

Oh, same with the Cub.  Bear switched from the longbow to semi-recurve design in '55.
