Title: Shrew,now I'm hooked
Post by: mildrd on December 05, 2007, 04:53:00 PM
Shot my first buck with a traditional bow this year off the ground on public land at about 8 yards.A decent 120 class. The size of the deer doesn't matter to me.The adrenalin rush does.I have hunted for years with a compound and shot many deer of various sizes.I found myself with the compound 1 time this year in the woods and just couldn't bring myself to put down my recurve.I am willing to give up the range and precision that the compound offers. That doesn't bother me.I have shot quite a few different longbows and recurves over the years to find something I really shoot well as I have been wanting to go all traditional.I traded for a bow that for some reason just agrees with my shooting style. The bow is an older Shrew recurve that just seems to hit where I'm looking. My question is I want to add to my arsenal and only want either a Shrew recurve or longbow.Actually leaning towards a longbow as I have favored them until I got this bow.I shoot 28" and around 55#-60# and would like to hear any opinions on the Classic Hunter or Lil' Favorite. The bow I'm currently shooting is 58" and I wouldn't mind going shorter if possible.

I missed out on a eight pointer on public ground on opening day, it was my own fault I wasn't paying attention, I moved my head in his direction and there he was, in a bolt he was gone.  It would have been a 12 and half yard shot.

Congratulations, even though I missed out on it I think it was just as much fun, traditional hunting is something else.

great to hear, i also used to hunt with a compound but have not touched it for a while now.
i have 2 shrews one is a 58" shrew recurve and is a great shooting bow and just seems to be very accurate and forgiving, then iv got a 56" shrew t/d longbow, its a higher poundage and is a great bow, fast and hard hitting, light and manurevable love it!

Congrats on your buck! And.... Shrew Bows Are Cool! I've owned a few bows in my time but my Super Shrew Gold is Great!

I always kinda wanted to go over to wood arrows.  This bow (and my Griffin) love woodies.

Best Of Luck and Welcome Aboard!

Give Ron Laclair a call and tell him what you are looking for. He's a sponsor here and makes the Shrew, he will hook you up.

Just done a Thread in the 'Product Reviews' section on the 52" Classic Hunter. Give it a once-over!

Rob, I'm glad the 52" Classic Hunter is working out for you. Normally I'd recommend the 54" model for a long draw like yours. 30" is really pushing it to the max...      :scared:

To be honest Ron, given the choice I would probably gone for a 54" or even a 58" SuperShrew, but I couldn't stand waiting a year & they don't come up too often as a T/D! I'm glad I got the 52" now! (Although if you ever fancy trading a 58" T/D for some cutlery..... :D )

Mildrd:

I second JDinPA above. Give Ron a call. He'll answer all your questions and will not mislead you just to make a sale.

yip Ron is a great guy and to be fair a legend, he has been there and done that many times before, and is realy modest about the bows, they are some of the best out there!!
