Cody,
Yes, I have some 1959 Kodiaks.
Gathered up most of the 59 and 60 Kodiaks this morning but a few are out on loan so they did not make it for this group photograph...
I'll let you separate the 59s from the 60s if you want an exact count of each year.
Keep us posted about your progress to replicate that 55# 60" 1959 Kodiak that I mailed to you this past week. Glad it arrived OK.
Just stumbled across a couple of more that missed the group photograph this morning... so re-took the photograph, removed the earlier photograph and loaded the new one here...

97# Lefty??? Wow....That must've COST...

I feel under privileged with my "One" But then again She is a "Sweet One" 64" 54# and not a crack in her. Still had the original plate and rest when she came home with me.

vtmtnman - Not sure what you meant by "That must've COST..." if you were talking about the cost of the bow in 1959 or 2009...
The 1959 Kodiak sold for $59.50. Heavier weights were available from 76# to 100# for an additional $10.00, and supposedly only in 64".
Fifty years later that original $10 difference is generally worth significantly more than the standard bows that were advertised in the three lengths, 56", 60" and 64", as being from 25# to 75#.

I meant finding that one used today.I know the heavier weight bows go for more, plus being a lefty,I'd think that's a pretty rare animal right there.
Though I'm not up on all this like you guys are.

vtmtnman - Yes, in the last several years, the #76 to 100# Kodiaks that have sold at auction have usually gone for some pretty steep prices. Certain collectors/shooters have a keen interest in the heavy weights.
Yes, heavy weight lefties are rare. While it is true that lefties are much rarer than RH bows, rarity alone does not always equate to a higher price. Many other factors enter into the value. Generally there is far less demand for lefties.
However this is not always true either. For some extremely rare 1959 Kodiaks, some RH collectors/shooters have been willing to pay more than any LH collector/shooters, just to fill a hole with a LH bow, in hopes that later they will acquire the same bow in RH to replace the LH.
All Bow Collectors are crazy..., especially those who collect Bear Kodiaks.
-
A big fat 0zer for me.....but I'd sure like a 45lb lefty....not particular about length but I think I'd get along better with a 64"er....
They're lovely bows and someday I'll have either an original or a replica...

I currently own two. Both are 60". One is a purpleheart sight window 47#, the other is a 44# really early rosewood sight window with no coin and really different overlays. I also have a 64" 44# 59 Kodiak Special. CKruse
