Title: Red Wing Hunter

Hi fellow bowhunters!
I bought an old recurve today with the name
Red Wing Hunter 45# and 58" from Wing Archery.
It looks old and used but shoot them arrows as smooth as anything i`ve ever tried.
This is a bow that really impressed me and i`m wondering if anybody have some experience with these bows?

Oh yes great shooters would you have a pic or two you could load ? I'd love to see it.We may be able to figure out what year it was built if you move this to the collers section.Glenn StCharles said the Red Wing Hunter was the best shooting recurve ever built...bowdoc

I have a 48# one and was shooting it with a 9 1/2" brace height. Guys on here were recommending 8 1/2"s so I got a new string and tuned er' up at the shorter brace height. Still shoots great and is noticeably faster. Mine is a 1972 version according to archery archives. Great purchase!!!

Where are you measuring the brace height from, the back of the sight window or the low point of the grip?

Measure from the deepest part of the grip. The part of the grip furthest from the string.

measure from the the string to the deepest throat of the grip where the web of your hand fits.Red Wing Hunters will normally shoot good with anything from around 7 1/2 - 8 1/2 inch brace.They are great bows.If you have the info off the bow and can tell me what the labels look like ? I may be able to narrow the year down somewhat ??? bowdoc

the reg nr on the bow is RW17772. I think it is braszilian rosewood handle and it`s dark brown limbs.I`ll try to upload some photos.

Does the lable just say "Wing", or below it does it have "AMF" or "Head Ski"

If it is Brazillian Rosewood, it is most probably a true "Wing" made in the early '60's, probably with really small tips.

If so, that is one of the best ones ever made.

Top limb has written Red Wing Hunter
and the lower limb has a logo with the name Wing inside a bowed triangel and on the side from left to bottom its written Archery and from bottom to right it stands Company.
No other name on the bow.

It`s just painted directly on the limb with white color!

This is a terrible question, but how do Wing bows compare to Pearson Bows in general? I've had good luck with the Wing's I have

Looks like you have a "transistion" Red Wing Hunter from first half of 1967. Reason I say transisition is when Wing moved from Houston to Jacksonville in early part of 1967 it was in the transition period of selling the company to Head Ski. Therefore they used a silk screen decal saying Wing Archery Company and that was it-no city. Then when Head Ski took over they used the same decal except below it was added Div. of Head Ski.

The handle woood is Shedua.

I used the bow in the national championship 09 (traditional)this weekend and the bow is still going strong.(We was able to take the third place and bronze medal.)
I think it`s exiting to see that an old used recurve like this still can compete with todays modern equipment and fine made bows:)

Just got my Red Wing Hunter #50 and 52". I always tried to stay away from shorter bows thinking they would not be as smooth, but this bow defies that rule. It's very smooth and really drives those arrows. Right on the mark too. Nice in the hand very light and short.

OK so 2 things: There are some tiny lines on the back of the upper and lower limb right about the fadeout. The extend all the way across and for about 2 inches top to bottom. Are these stress marks? Should I worry?

If the answer is no, this bow has the threaded holes for a Wing quiver and also a side mount for a quickee quiver (I think) Which would be a better choice?  

I'm going out and shooting some distance with this now.
