Title: Most Treasured Bow Owned Or Looking For?
Post by: azdriheat on March 21, 2009, 06:15:00 PM
I just got a 59 Kodiak maple heart that had been high on my list of needs. I need  to "need" something else. What do you still "need"?

I'm still looking for a few to complete my '58 collection. I still need to find a 56" Kodiak, and all the Kodiak specials.

My most treasured is still the 50# '62 Kodiak I found at a Trapper's convention.  Not the prettiest or rarest by any stretch, but it's the bow that kick started this crazy addiction for me.  Good thing I have all you other addicts for moral support.

Proved to myself today that the  "ELDARADO BOWS" exist in more than just our dreams.

Awaiting the arrival of my recently found Jack Howard Supreme Target bow.

One of only two that I know of to exist.

Will try to post pictures when it comes in.

Do tell! Great find on that one!
My fave (took me a wee bit of searching as well) is my '69 Bear Tamerlane HC-300.
Well worth the wait!

My first HAD TO HAVE was a near mint Browning Cobra...which Palapin assisted me in finding.  :)

Then it was a green glass, small tipped, near mint Explorer....found it too.

I have 12 bows now...after selling a few last year.  When I think back to bows I wanted over the years...a Paul Schafer, a Blacktail Elite, a Bill Stewart Double Cam Limb recurve....not same draw as they used to have though maybe a Blacktail Elite from one of Norms earlier years (not the fancy ones now) would be nice.

I think my next journey is learning to make my own hickory and osage selfbows...that dont blow up on me and are functional and a pleasure to shoot and look at.  I think that is going to bring my satisfaction going forward.

Hell, been thinking of selling that Cobra recurve that still is just as mint today as it was years ago when I first got it.  Who knows...  :)

may sound nuts but I would really enjoy owning a LH 1963 Type 1 Grizzly.

My current most treasured is a lowly 1972 LH Grizzly.  It's marked "40x#" but whoever did that was either a prankster or forgot their glasses.  It scales 53# @ 28".

It's treasured as it's from my birth year and my cousin showed up one day and just gave it to me.  He had found it for sale locally near his place.

I found a 1962 66" Kodiak Special in legal hunting weight, so now have refocused my obsession to finding a 1962 Browning Diana. I also ponder  a 1961 Gordon Custom Deluxe with royal blue glass limb backs and creamy belly, but that just might be a unicorn.

Oh,  I forgot one.  I would really like to have a Wellman Hurricane Hunter - lefty of course.

If you're interested, item 201608780329 on the big auction is a righty.  They were in production quite a few years and I have seen them in different woods.  I see about 1-2 a year but never a lefty - yet

They were made locally here and I would like to own a piece of that history

You know I have skirted around so many Tamerlanes I could not begin to remember...I finally stayed on track and just bought a 1966 HC30 lefty...apparently I was just waiting until the prices came down a bit...the thing I like best about the bow is that the brush rest is still in great shape...many of them are missing it entirely

Most treasured I own? My fathers Hoyt Pro Medalist.

Most treasured, non-sentimental bow(s)?  My '49 grizzly, Stamped Grumley and my 2 KII's

Looking for? A Damon Howatt El Dorado, cool bows!

The two I'd never sell are a pair of 67.5 Super Kodiaks. One is 64" and 48#. The other is 60" and 48#. Not a scratch on either of them.

I treasure all of my bows so much I have trouble leaving any at home.  My Samic sage and journey are the ones I couldn't live without.

The one I long for is a 62" grizzly in a hunting weight.  Also an indian seneca with zebra wood riser, and a b riser magnesium take down and a pearson palemeno.

Dave, from what I've seen the prices keep going UP. How are you liking that Tamerlane?

The one I treasure the most is my 1966 66" Alaskan in 35#.  Given to me back around 80-81, and what got me into Archery.  The ones I'd like to get are a Tamerlane, Temujin, a target Polar, and a White Knight take down.  Also would like to get hold of 2 bear Cubs, one lefty and a right in like 20#, since it seems that when I go to the range on Saturdays, I run into younger kids that have been thinking about switching to trad.

I would like to have a bear takedown with the built-in sight in factory camo.  Dad ordered one the first year they came out and later on traded it for a wing  compound

A lot of amazing bows were traded for those early compounds. Our local archery shop used to have barrels of recurves that had been traded in.

A few guys were smart enough to offer those shop owners a small profit for their "junk" recurves and built great collections.

Hind sight is 20/20

I treasure them all. Having said that, my 1960 Kodiak Deluxe is very close to my heart along with a 62 Kodiak. I would love to have a 1959 and a 1960 Kodiak in the 50# range.

I have a 68 SK coming either today or tomorrow.  Never owned one so this'll be my first.

Also like the multi-colored Bear Mag TDs.  Owned one in 'Little Delta' Green for a while.

Always have a soft spot for the 59-60 Alaskan.  Slim and graceful, lefty and righty, plus that snazzy black and orange glass.  What's not to like?

A 1962 Bear Kodiak 50# with a great story to it.Got it from the land owner where I hunt deer. Was walking past his shed to go deer hunting ,I was carrying a 70's grizzly.and he said from the shed, I want to show you something. He took me to his shop and there was all his old archery stuff he had from early 60's.after Vietnam. I said I coleect the stuf and he said its for sale. The bow had the camo tape on it.So I took it home and cleaned it off and shot it and thought ,I want this bow bad. Ended up buying it and the other stuff.Got some arrows that shot good out of it and quivered up and  the first hunt with it I shot the buck of my life.Score 162 inches. When I showed the land owner the buck he told me he had never shot a deer with the bow but that was back in the day before the pop. explosion. I felt honored to have broke it in for him.
