Title: Hare's Ear? pix added
Post by: Guru on March 04, 2009, 09:31:00 PM
Never heard of one before I became the owner of this one a couple weeks ago.....I'll try to get pix tomorrow. It has the most unique handle shelf areas I've ever seen on a bow....

Written on the bow is "Hare's Ear"

By Les Braaten  Aug. '54  40# 28"

I'm not a collector, so don't know anything about these bows......what can you guys tell me?

Curt thats a super cool bow right there.I would most likely not shoot that one to much as that toxhorn or crossweave fiberglass on the back is not real strong stuff...cool bow.bd

Thanks Doc, for some actual help    :notworthy:

I'm left handed so I won't be shooting it. But I have drawn it and it appears to be very sound. That grip/shelf area may be diff., but it absolutely forces you to grip the bow only one way.

Pretty neat bow, won it at the St Jude raffle at Shawn's JLMBH...

Very cool bow Curt. The grip is most unusual with the raised thumb shelf. I like those old "semi recurve" style limbs - what we would call R/D longbows today.

yes some of those old custom grips are weird feeling to me too.I can'nt shoot that type thumb rest grip worth a darn.
You know I looked at the pics again and it looks like a deflex reflex or what ever those bows are called ?? some bowyers build that same design or very near it today and call it that ref.def. whatever hypo or hybreed something along those lines. And I thought those new bowyers just invented the def ref jobs.Wow was I ever wrong.bd

That is an unusual bow..great find Guru.

My first thought..wonder if it could be shot left handed? ..bhfp
