March 11th there is a shoot near Al's house and Alan will pick Al's computer them.Howevr Alan told me this morning he spoke with Al's printer today and should possibly have some transfers sooner...bd
-
Great news! I'm kinda new to the Trad History/Collecting forum, are these decals for all the older Bear bows?
....Scott
-
Hi Scott yes they were mostley for Bear recurves.
However Alan's father who was printing them originally for use passed away several months ago.His son is now takeing over for Sr.
At one time you could email Al a digital picture of just about any bow decals silk screens or transfers and he would reprint them and have a new decals on your door step in about 3-5 days.He was working on and also had come up with a system to take a certin type paper he had and trace the original lettering off bear bows like serial number length and draw weight ??? you then backed that paper with another piece of transfer paper and could reproduce that almost perfect hand lettering that was on your Bear bow and replace it with Al's system.
I'am not sure how far young Alan will take it.But his father was very good at printing old bow decals...bd
-
Sounds good, I can understand the excitement! I have read were you all have talked about Al and the decal situation.
.....Scott

HOT DIGITY! That's great news. :jumper:

Awesome news Doc!!!!! You're like a kid at Christmas arent you ;)
Trap

Trap whats really great is the amount of time it will save me by not haveing to find a new printer.
A couple week ago Mrs.bowdoc suggested maybe I better just give it up and retire.Glad I never listen to her...bd

:D now, that's fine!
I have a 65# Gainesville Kodiak laying around stripped for several years now. Will there be Gainesville "decals" available as well?

Great news for the hobby. What makes it even sweeter is the the service that Al Sr. provided us lives on... in Al Jr. Kinda neat.
-
Wonderful news! CKruse
-
BD,
I think that is wonderful that Al jr. is picking up where his father left off. I just thought I would mention that after many months of phone calls and calling in favors, I have been successful in recreating decals for my Ben Pearson Palomino and my Damon Howatt Hunters. Not to take anything away from Al or his family, but if anyone needs any of those type decals, please PM me.
Dave
-
I saw the Palomino decal I believe last week and it looked just super. If anyone needs eather of those decals Dave's your man.
Dave I think its a great and much needed service to anyone restoring an old bow..bd
-
Hey Dave, what about a 1962 Pearson Pinto?
-
Lon,
What I would need is a very good high resolution digital photo of the existing decal. Once I have that, the image can be reconstructed and printed. It should not be too much of a problem especially since we have the Ben Pearson Arrow already on file. Cost wise, I would not able to give you a quote until I get the photo and my graphics person tells me how long it will take her to recreate it. Printing is pretty easy, we use a adhesive backed clear vinyl and I am also working on getting the decals printed on wet slide vinyl. It is alot thinner than the adhesive backed vinyl but much harder to find a printer that it is compatible with. If you get the photo, please pm me and I will get you an email address to send it to. Good luck.
Dave

I need a 1962 Pearson Pinto also. I refinished my first recurve.
-
Guys
I am in the process of recreating the 1962 Pinto logo. It will be recreated in outline in Adobe Illustrator. The quality near perfect. I’ll share the file with you. I’ll be back on this thread soon, supper’s ready....

Thanks Simon...what a service!
-
OK Pinto lovers, I’ll start a new thread so to not further hijack this one.
-Simon
-
Simon you don't need to start a new thread. This is about helping each other out and your info could only help and not hurt anyone. Its cool with me.You know I love to restore old bows and finding part is not easy...keep up the good work.bd

Hello to all on Trad Gang. I am Al's son Alan. I first want to apologize for not getting this going sooner. I'm really sorry to keep you guys hanging. But down to business. I have to get all the info I can off of dad's computer to really get this thing going. In talking with the printer, dad had made about 2 doz. orders and he wasn't specific on a lot of things. Meaning one order was "Bear Glass Powered Super Kodiak", no year or color etc. I will be in CA. on March 12 thru 16 and I will get everything I can and let you guys know. Since I am new to this I know I will be needing a lot of help figuring this stuff out. I promise I will do my best to accomadate everybody's needs and carry on dad's business the best I can. Thanks for all of your support. It warms my heart to see how much my dad was loved and respected. I know I don't have the knowledge he had yet but be will see if you can teach an old dog some new tricks. I want to apologize for any misspelling now. FYI My home e-mail is [email protected]

A warm welcome to ya Alan
-
Welcome Alan! It is outstanding of you to carry on your dad's tradition. Looking forward to getting to know you.
-
Thanks Gents Thanks,
I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all as well. I do know that everybody I have met thru traditional archery are really great people. I want to thank you all for the love, support and prayers you all have shown on this and other sites. A quick message for Tony W. I'm not sure if dad did any Bear coin repos but I will check and Howattfan (Dave) you have taken nothing away from me or my famly with making your Pinto decal. I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished bow. I might be needing some assistance on how you did it as to help me understand how dad did his. After reading some things on this site I have no doubt BowDoc has alot of knowledge that I will be tapping into as well if he allows.
-
Hey AL, welcome to the club. Been looking for some super kodiak logals for awhile. It's great that your carrying on with the bizz. Jim
-
I was referred to this thread. I have a set of Bear TD limbs that I'm going to refinish and I'll need some decals. I'll be looking forward to hearing when they become available.
Here's what I'll need and for the bottom limb too.

Al,
Welcome aboard.I'm glad to hear you will be carrying on with your dad's work. That would make him very happy I'm sure.I recently lost my father, unexpected,so I know it takes awhile to get back on track.Prayers to you and your family and good luck with the decals,I'm sure I'll be getting some from you too.
-
Al should be along later this morning.I believe he has almost everything now.Not sure on the T/D's but I do know Al was having those printed before as I got several sets of the T/D transfers. Here's a pic of the new transfers and they look and work great.I've set 6 sets and got 10 more from Al yesterday.bowdoc (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii175/bowdocsarchery/decal001-1.jpg)
-
Doc - Looks like you are up early, or did you even get any sleep last night with all those new transfers to play with?
Meant to ask earlier are you going to try to take photographs of the original serial numbers on a bow and have Al make up transfers for them like you mentioned on the first page of this thread? Or have you and Al gotten that far yet?
-
I'am one of those 6 hr a night guys and went to bed early then got up at 2 so I could get the heater going in my shop.Yahoooo you gotta love em huh ? bd

What's his screen name? I can't find Al Kurt.
-
His screen name is Al H #19439 this should hook you right up.
-
John, sorry to hear about your dad. It is truly a tough time in a son’s life when he looses a father. My prayers go to you and your family as well and thanks for yours. Wade I haven't figured out how dad did the serial numbers yet. I just got his software last week and I hope to have it figured out soon. Robert, I sent you a PM. I think I have those decals in stock. Sorry I haven't gotten on the site for a couple of days. Been helping my brother in-law build a log house down in Muncie.
-
Al you might check and see if it were more like blocks of numbers and letters that could be cut out and set same as the transfers.bd
-
PM sent Bowdoc
-
Doc he has some block lettering but they are too large for serial numbers but he does have a 1/2 page of silver serial numbers for a 66" 23#@27" bow. I think it was for one of his Wings. Were the serial numbers a waterslide? I have yet to find any info on who made his waterslides so it is leaving me to believe that he printed them his self. If the serial numbers were a waterslide I bet he would make them by hand. I loaded the software last night but I have to find an update. Looks like he updated from Adobe 7 to 8 somewhere. I will keep on it. Al
-
Yes that would be super if you find out anything on those keep me posted.Thats one part of the restoration work I do not like is relettering the bows. Its not easy or fun for me.bowdoc
