I know that American Archery made some of the Hoyt Scout and that Howatt made some of the Hoyt Scouts, ProHunters, and ProCustoms.
This fact raises a question that I would think would be of interest to bow collectors: What other models of bows were made by one company and sold under a label for another company?
-
Colt Firearms marked bows were made mostly by Wing and some by Pearson. Sears sold bows with the Sears name made by Bear, Pearson and Indian Archery. Shakespeare sold bows made by Ernie Root. Bows marked JC Pennys Foremost were made by Indian Archery and Ben Pearson and bear. Bows marked Locksley were made by Ben Pearson. Just a few I know of. There are lots more.
-
Well now, Locksley and Golden Sovereign were Ben Pearson Brand names...all made by Ben Pearson,
I know other companies made some models for, but I think when Harry Drake joined their design team they made their own.
Of course we all know tha Howatt made the Jack Howard Hunters, and Jack finished them.

The Firedrake sold by Browning was made by Harry Drake and Wing also made many bows sold by Browning.

A few weeks ago there was an interesting topic elsewhere regarding some of the Schafer bows being made by Martin. This was the "Ghost" line of bows at a time when Paul could not keep up with demand.
-
Shakespeare's were Ernie Root's bows, then Root became Shakespeare. Root/Shakespeare also made the Golden Eagle metal handled target bows, later called Archery Research, I believe? CKruse

The golden eagle research target bow was made by Root at the time of the buy out by Shakespeare. The bow is neither marked root or shakespeare.

Like I said
Learn something here every day.
I knew Root and Shakespeare waer associated. Did not know Ernie made them all.
Did not know Golden eagle was root and Shakespeare.
Did not know that the only boe Drake mede fro Browning was the Fire Drake. Thought there wee many more.
I am sure there were many intertwined brands and manufacturors.
Good thread Ray. Stimulated some mor knowledge for me.

I have seen photos of Martin recurves that I was sure were made by Blackhawk.

Sorry, but I only made one bow in my life and it is still here on my rack.
Actually, I bet no company has built bows for the Howatt/Martin line except Howatt/Martin. ;)
-
Gordon Company that makes the glass now days made the earlier Brownings and the Deluxe Composite Bows that are actually Browning rejects made by Gordon. I bet Gordon made other companies bows also. Jim

Anybody know the details between Howatt and Jack Howard? And who made what for whom?

Jack Howard purchased the Howard Hunter bows from Howatt (they are Howatt Hunters). Jack then finished the bows and put his insignia on them. Jack made his Gamemasters, Gamemaster Jets, and Gamemaster Classics himself.
