Title: Super K with no overlays (pic)

I aquired this 68 Super K. It had no serial number and no overlays on the face. It has an inscription where the serial number would be that says- RR1968. The guy who refinished it believes it to be a "lunch box bow". One built by an employee for himself and never put on the overlays. It shows no sign of them ever being there. It does look pretty cool without them in my opinion. Since the bow came from the Grayling area I believe it is quite possibly the case.

Those overlays being made of the same paper micarta as Bears early bows were.May have gotten water under the overlay and came unglued.When was the bow restored ? bd

Hmmmmm, the guy who refinished it, was that Roger Reynolds, or Rob Renshaw, or maybe Richard Roth?

The bow was refinished last year. I know the guy that did it and his name doesnt have those initials in it. He is from Michigan too and he said there were no overlays or serial number on it when he got it. He stripped off the original finish. I appreciate input from each of you as I thought you guys would find it interesting. I got the bow for a more than fair price and didnt buy it as some "wild artifact". I just thought it was a cool looking bow with no overlays. I have no reason to doubt what the guy who refinished it told me. Though authenticating it for whatever it is could prove to be a full time job. And, Bowdoc is not the first to suggest the overlays fell off. But I still dont understand the lack of a serial number and the RR1968.

How do you know for sure it is a Bear Super Kodiak? Could be just someones copy of the particular year and model.

Yes it is really a Bear. It has the original silk screens and coin. White overlays on the limb tips too. They show the yellowing typical of a 40 year old Super K.

Kurt- The bow in my avatar is a Predator, its the one and only "Safari Classic". It has black and white micarta in the riser. Since its one of a kind, I think it qualifies as "collectable", so here is a better pic.

I've seen and shot this bow personally. That grip feels great like that,,Bow shoots real nice too,, I've shot that predator too,,That bow is really nice to shoot,,JB
