After telling Johnny that I would make a repro of his bush bow if it broke, I got to thinking that I better start practicing up or shut up. So, here is my first attempt. Did not have a piece ready that would make a wide short bush bow, so I tried a deerslayer from memory of what I've seen of them.
The stave had some funky grain angle in the lower limb so I did a sinew wrap there. Other than that it came out fair for a first try. Laminations at the built up curves were a little thin and I got some compression waves in them at the clamps and its a fairly light draw for a self bow, but a surprising shooter and a satisfying first try.

Shaun - You didn't waste much time knocking out your first Bush Bow. Be sure to bring it along when you come next week so you can compare to some of the original Grumley Bush Bows. We'll come up with some great ideas for your next one, that is if you haven't started it already...

Off to cut osage early tomorrow, I usually only look for full length staves but since Grumley used billets and its easier to find good 40" stuff, I will harvest some of that length.
Wade, I will put some finish on this one and bring it along. It will be great to see some real ones up close. May even have to do some measuring and photographing for more accurate repros.

Shaun-Nice job on your Grumley repro.Can't wait to see it finished.I am going to post this picture on my thread about when I cleaned the bush bow up and strung it but I thought it would be appropriate here as well.With a little prodding from my son,I pulled her back to full draw today before I left for work and it survived.I'm really happy on the one hand because it didn't break but kinda bummed on the other because now you won't be building me a replacement.At least not yet but I still have plenty of time to get it to break.LOL
You better bring a bib when yo go to Wade's house,you're going to need it! :thumbsup:
