Title: Alaska tradgangers!!!
Post by: greenhed on December 04, 2007, 12:55:00 AM
Greetings! I am currently in the process for applying for a state trooper position in Alaska.  I have a few questions:
1. Are there many Tradgangers in Alaska?
2. Are there any trooper Tradgangers?
3. If so, can you give me tips on the testing?

Thanks
Dan

There seem to be a fair number of Tradgangers here in AK.  Good Luck on your testing...Mark

No troopers that I know of... but there are atleast three of us here in Juneau.  I have a friend who is a policeman and they do the same testing but I can't really give you any tips except start start running and doing push-ups.  Good Luck.  Oh and you'll probably be out in the middle of nowhere if you get in and finish.

Atleast one in the eastern Interior. Yep as said above if you get in and finish you will be sent out to the middle of nowhere. Good luck!

Well, how bout retired trooper/tradganger.  send me a PM and I will answer all I can.  Retired with 20 at 42, and my retirement is more than my take home working pay.  Great job, but you will spend time in the "bush", and some families cannot handle that well.  I preferred the bush, but my wife preferred Anchorage.

When you say middle of nowhere, do you mean a tiny town near the arctic circle, or tenting it?

Be sure to ask for a hat WITH earflaps...

Good Luck to ya. You will get a whole new concept of "wide open spaces"

I will watch for you in my rear view mirror ;*)

Mr. greenhed,
For the most part, Troopers are highly respected here in the Interior.
Best Wishes

my fathers best friend was a brownshirt trooper, while they still existed.  he started in palmer then to kodiak, palmer again, cantwell, kotz, coldfoot, bethel and back to coldfoot. this was all in 12 years.  he was also a avid longbowman.  even though he was always on the move with his family they had the knowledge and location for some of the most amazing ak hunting.  do you have your pilots liscence, if not you should get it.

jrChambers.

Gov. Palin re-instated the Brown Shirts this summer. She is doing good.

A pilots license is good but a working knowlege of outboard motors and the ability to do major roadside repairs on a vehicle would be assets also. Miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles...The country is not very forgiving at all.

well huh, I met him on many occasions, even stopped by the house in coldfoot a time or three.   New mexico, didnt like the winters in wiseman?   Last I heard he was doing ecotourism like Dirk.   I wonder, he must be flying for deltana then would be my guess?

yeah deltana i think that is right.  well he actualy liked coldfoot more than anywhere else he had been.  he was forced to quit flying for the troopers due to some medical problems from when he was struck by lightning.  but all of the beddingfields have been know to get into some crazy life ventures and one after another.
i spent a christmas there, we spent christmas eve in a snow hut 60 below.  ive been hunting with them a few times in bethel and coldfoot, shot some caribou.  my father went on a trip with him about every year where ever they were living, some pretty good times.

If you guys bump into Curt, Call him POPEYE, a nickname he got while at a gun school.  Great guy, and yes he did shoot the heavy longbows, I believe he got one of mine.

popeye eh...well I had and still have the opportunity to guide for them if I wanted too.  Having a hard time giving up my sheep season and not being able to hunt at all.  Great guys though, spent a  nite with them at happy valley.  Buddy of mine is the ones brother inlaw.

Anyways, if I get to see curt again, I'll try to remember that one.   Good company either way, but struck by lightening....I'm gonna have to walk in and out now, ugg.

One of the Juneauites here.

CB flew into a place I was holed up in waiting for a pickup after a moose float.  He checked my license and osage selfbow out and flew off. I asked him if he'd radio my pilot for an early out and he said the next day when he got to Galena.  Didn't happen so I had to wait even longer than expected....

boy I was waiting for that one Stevo.   I still wonder about that, if he did or didn't.

That just doesnt fit his MO......not saying he might have forgot, but realizing his position and experience up there, I highly doubt he didnt or wouldnt......

youll never know.  there are so many things that could have happened,  maybe he pulled the same move his son did and land on a sand bar to pee and got his cub stuck.
