I recently picked up a late 60's Red Wing Hunter. Any ideas on where to start with brace height? The bow is 58".
-
I have a 58" early RW hunter and I brace it at 8" that seems to work for me on most all my recurves.
-
Minimum of 8" and work up from there if needed.
8-8 1/4" is where most of my RWH's are.

I picked up a Head Ski era 58" 43@28. Bought a new string for a 58"amo bow and it seems to short. Brace height is almost 9-1/2". What is the correct string length for these bows. Will have to order a custom made string.

12 strand B-50, 55" long. Get a flemish, too as more adjustment can be obtained.

I also pickup a late 1960 red wing hunter.bought a new string and have a 9.5 brase height.i have the originl strig,(16 strand).any ideas?

You guys with Red Wing Hunters need 55" strings, not AMO 58" bows which are really 54" in length. Also, on bows 50# and under 12 strands of B-50 is plenty. Over 50# 14 strands is all you need. AMO 16 strands are way overkill-they build them that way for liability reasons-not performance.
If you want good strings made by someone who knows Red Wing Hunters real well check with Steve Smith.
