Title: Bear Kodiak
Post by: Danny Rowan on December 15, 2008, 03:51:00 AM
I have a question on the 1959 Kodiak and 59/60 Kodiak Deluxe.

Did Bear make them in 56"???

Thanks,

Danny

I take it the Kodiak Deluxes and Special Deluxes should not be shot. True?

Mine's only 45# and 60" though.

Just that I heard they could blow up is why I ask. I love the looks of them and would like to have one but do not want a bow I cannot shoot.

Hi Danny those Special Deluxe and Deluxe did not blow up ever.Thats just not true. That is a big rumor made up by collecters to get then off guy's cheep.trust me on that one.Bear only made them one year because of stress cracks in the clear glass looked real bad. They are actually quit good shooters. Those 56" models are rare and cool bows spendie but neat.bowdoc

You'll probably never see two 56 inch Deluxes up for sale on e8ay at the same time again. Rare bows for sure, even rarer to find them for sale..... Remember!! (and e8ay doesn't want you to think about this) you don't "WIN" an auction, you agree to pay more than anyone else in the whole world who was also interested in it. Good luck

Well this will be fun to watch.

I'm thinking on the 21st about 6:45 Central Time I'm going to pop the top on a cold one and get some Orville Redenbacher shaking in the microwave in preparation for the shootout that will soon follow.

Don't let me down boys, Shoot em up!!!!!

Len300, the e8ay seller of the 56" Kodiaks we are discussing here is a good friend of mine. I have bought and sold many high-end bows with him over the years. He is one of the most up-front honest guys out there to deal with in every aspect of any transaction. If he lists a bow as all original then I believe him 100% that nothing has been tampered with. That is not his style, bid accordingly.

Abear- good luck on the 60# shorty. Chuck, your recommendation speaks well of Len. I agree that the lettering is "different" on the 44 pounder though, but there could be several explanations for that. What is slightly curious to me is that the 56" ers in the catalogue were recommended for up to 26" draw lengths if I'm not mistaken and the lighter bow is measured at 26. The sixty pounder doesn't make a draw length distintion at all. ????? Inquiring minds want to know, lol. They both look like pretty good specimens to me though- just beyond my means at the present. GY

Chuck I've delt with Len since he started collecting and I'am not saying he's misrepresenting the bow at all.I'am just saying the lettering is different on the 1959 then the other 3 bows. That is not Bear Archery factory lettering on that one.I never said Len did it.bd

Not the correct at=== @ symbol used by Bear Archery eather. They did not use a circle with an A in the middle for sure. They used the actual @ symbol. Please check the pics.thank you bowdoc

I talked to Leonard tonight. He bought the 56 inch '59 from Matt Dickerson in Texas. Matt acquired it from the original owner a few years ago. Matt was told by the original owner that the bow had been ordered special from the custom shop at Bear in 1959. Len told me he considers the bow to be all original. That is how the lettering was done the day the bow was finished in Bear's custom shop. That is all I know. Good luck.

Congratulations Chris. When you recover from the thrashing your wife gives you over this let us know how it performs. That really is a nice looking bow. I meant to save it on my watching mode so I could see how high it went cause I'm sure it wasn't cheap even in a soft market. Merry Christmas,                  Grant
