I notice that we have some very interesting threads for legends and pioneers of traditional archery and bowhunting. I am surprised that there is NOT a Legend/Pioneer thread for Earl Hoyt, Jr.. If nothing else, Earl was a remarkable bowyer, innovator, and craftsman who brought his engineering background into bow making. How many of you have read the chapter regarding Earl in Dan Bertalan's classic book, "Traditional Bowyers of America"?
Now, maybe some think that he made only target bows because his target bows were absolutely tops. However, Earl was also a bowhunter (just ask those who have been associated with the Missouri Bowhunters for more than a couple of years) and made some superb hunting bows.
So, I would like to invite others to contribute here what they know about Earl, his bow-making, innovations, bows, and anything else worthy of a true traditional archery legend and pioneer.
I will add posts with what I know from time-to-time.
So, come on and tell us what you know!

My first arrow fletcher was a Hoyt Tri-Heli_Fletch. Very cool, highly adjustable fletcher.
I used to watch him and his wife shoot Field Archery (Olympic Style) rounds here in Columbia at the annual Show Me Games. I didnt own a setup like that but loved to watch them lob them in.
Earl was a very nice man with a welcoming smile on his face every time I ever saw him.

I believe Charlie Lamb knew him. I used to hang out with Owen Jeffery some and he had worked for Mr. Hoyt- spoke very highly of him.

Didn't Earl develop the first generation of Foam core limbs for his target bows? Great chapter about him in Dan Bertalans book.

You believe right...Charlie used to work for Earl in his younger days. I think he started there about three years after Moses left Egypt.
Being he is one of the moderators for the is forum, I hop he is doing his monitoring job and will jump in with som info.
