I wonder why Bear used white handle overlays and tips instead of a more muted color? I'm thinking of the Kodiaks, Kodiak Magnums, Kodiak Hunters, and maybe the Super Ks.
I think they look great but for a hunting bow they aren't so great.
-
Probably just because they did look nice. I like the later hunters and mags with the futurewood overlays.
-
I think it caused a lot of older Bears to be painted in the 60s and 70s.
My 65 Kodiak does have a muted greenish white overlay that isn't too bad but the pure white ones stood out.

Fred liked it.It was like chrome on your car.Made the bows look complete and a bit different then the avarage.bd

I've got to agree with that. One reason I became so enamored of the SK was the layering in and white color that they used on the SK and others.
-
I though the same thing when I bought my '68 Super K, and then later my '70 takedown. If you notice, a couple of years later they changed the tips to rose. Guess they felt you could wrap your hand over the white of the riser.

I remember archery in the sixties and it was kind of social. It seems to me that there were more women involved than now. Just look at the old bear ads. More so than now and there was a lot of emphasis on the looks of the bow. Kind of like skiing, you will fit in better if you have nice looking newer skis than older clunky ones. Or a least that was the illusion.

I always figure it this way.If a critter get near enough to me to see the white overlay or tips on my Super K..he may want to duck and run, cause there's a razorhead on the way.....bowdoc

That's right Bowdawg, if the white on the riser or limbs queers the deal it was over already.
-
I think the white overlay on the riser looks sharp against the green.

Always remember Fred originaly started I believe pattern makeing in the automotive industry. If you have ever looked at a new car the manufactures always makes something new every year, which is what keeps us comeing back to buy a new car every so often.Thats what kept guy's buying Bears bows for more money then the compediters bows cost. They were new models every year, different looking and had lots of chrome...We still ove em today..bowdoc

... especially the radiator ornament ...

so he made sure his bows had a nice grill and whitewalls ...

I'm with doc, it's like chrome on a hotrod. Classy and complete. Here's a comparison of with and without. (http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr72/gbsticknstring/chessertakedown009.jpg) (http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr72/gbsticknstring/chessertakedown008.jpg)
