Yesterday, I was at a shop and hanging on the wall was an old Bear Grizzly in great shape. He let me take a couple pics, so what do you know about the bow...such as age and value?

Thats an old one. I don't think it is a Grummley, but if it is the value is high...really high. In any case, ifthey are asking a reasonable price for it, you should jump on it.
This could be one of thase rare occasions when you stumble upon a realy find.
It is an old brush bow, say early '50's, but it will take someone more knowledgeable than me to put a real year ID and value on it.

It's about a 1953. Not really rare, but kind of a neat old bow. CKruse

52-53 ish......Not super rare,but none this less a great shooting static tip...value right now.....I'am gonna say between 75.00-150.00 ish...bowdoc

Is that a crack in the middle picture about the center of the limb?
-
Shaun,
There are no cracks or anything wrong with the bow. What you see is just a different shade of wood color...or an example of my quality photography work. :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the info...and kind of glad its not one of those super rare models worth thousands. The owner said the bow was a gift and no way would he sell it. WHEW!

If it is a L/R it is a '52, otherwise a '53. Like DT says-what about the pat applied for decal?
Those bows are absolute fun to shoot! They go on the auction board for 150-200 pretty much. Maybe less now.
-
The bow is a double shelf, and yes, there was a small rectangular "patent" sticker with a date of 1952 or maybe 1953. My guess is it said 1953 on the patent sticker since that was the date that appeared on the later bows.
-
The sticker is so small I looked at mine with a magnifying glass: "Canada 1953".
So then off to the catalogs; turns out the bow is a 1954-not '52 as I had always thought. My mistake.

up for "tater john"

I'd call it a 1952 model, maybe '53/ A fair price? buck fifty tops in my opinion.
-
Thats like the one I saw saturday, except the one I was looking at had a single shelf. Doesn't appear I found a 'teasure' though, darn it...
