I have a Bp Woodsman Hunter. It is marked with the serial number, followed by 54", 45@28. I have tried a few different 50" strings, but they dont even come close to a good looking BH. 3-5 inches, thats it. Anyone KNOW the BH? Any guesses for proper string length? Any ideas?
Even with the wrong string, its a decent little bow, and I would love to take it hunting, as it was my Dad's.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I think the norm is 3" shorther than the stated AMO length. That would mean you need a 51" string.
I like endless loop B-50 strings. I do not like flemish strings at all. However, the advantage to a flemish string is that you can adjust the length to "tune" the bow. I would suggest that you get a flemish string and play with adjusting it until you hit the sweet spot, then get an endless loop to that length...unless you are satisfied with the flemish, then just use that.
I love your on line name...aren't we all.

Thanks. I have a 51" on it right now. The BH is just too short...
Im kinda confused as to why neither string, 50 or 51 inch work. When the bow is braced, it looks like the strings are way too long. The feathers of any arrow would be on the rest.
Thanks about the name. I have been knapping and playing with roughing out self bows and making arrows so far...eventually...lol.

You can twist that string down until you hit the right length, then buy one that length,
-
I have twisted until Im scared to twist anymore....brace height still looks under five inches.
Maybe the bow is destined to be a wall hanger...

send me a pm and I will send you a vintage string for a 54 inch bow. it just may work out for you.

Jamie, is there any chance that the bow is mis-marked and is actually a 52" bow? Try measuring from string groove to string groove on the belly side of the bow. Follow all curves. That measurement less 3" to 4" should be close. If it is a 52" Hunter, the brace height should be 7-1/2" to 8-1/4".

I have tried the archery archives, the bowDB, all I can find is a picture of this bow.
Ga. Boy, thats my next step. Im off to work now though so it will be a day or two.
Again, thanks to everyone for helping me figure this bow out.

There is one like yours on Ebeigh right now.
item # 330274508688
Seller is about $25.00 high on shipping for a 54" bow. Nice looking bow though. The brace height in the picture looks a little too low to me. I'm guessing that bow should have a BH between 7-1/4 & 8-1/4" BH. I have a 54" Wing that is braced at 8-1/4" and shoots great. The string length is 49-1/2".
-
Measured the bow, 54" exactly. Twisted up the 51" string until I was scared to twist it anymore, and I have about 5.5" BH. The curve in the limbs is almost completely gone, and boy does it stack.
Im stumped.

Just measured the BH....5.5" exactly.I would say it was a youth bow if I didnt know better...anyone have any ideas?
-
At 45 pounds it is not a youth bow. Maybe it is just supposed to have a low brace height.
