I dont know what spine to order my arrows at. I'm gonna order some full length cedar arrows(32") and cut them myself but don't know what spine to get, my bow pulls 60# at 28". I have a dacron string, and shoot 125 grain points. My draw length is about 27 and a half inches and the arrows I'm shooting right now(Easton legacy 65-70#) are 29 inches. Some info would be great. If you're shooting a centershot recurve, could go even higher, i.e., 65-70 or more. I generally leave about one inch behind the head to the back of the bow. You have two inches now if you're 29 inches to the back of the point. Remember to allow for the point taper when you cut the shafts.

What bow are ya shooting and I can get ya darn close. If it is a high performance recurve than add 15#s to the bow weight and 5#s more for every inch over 28"s. I would say ya need 75-80#s spine. If ya cut them to 28"s than 70-75# would work. I shot just about every bow out there and my modern recurves(Blacktail,Widow,Brack,RER etc.)that were 60-63#s used this formula. My last heavier bow a Kwyk styk was 63#s at 28"s and I shot a 29.5" cedar with a 125 grain point spined 80-85#s. Go to arrowsbykelly.com and check out the spine charts they are on the money. Shawn
Shawn I'm shootin a longbow that my friend made for me it is centershot. What I was wondering was what spine should I order for the full length my guess is probably 55-60# because by the time I cut the arrows down to 29 inches they would be around 70# spine. Does this sound Right? I have no experience with woodies I'm just goin by what I have learned so far.

Exactly opposite. If you bought 55/60's and cut them 29" they would act more like 50/55's. Once you cut below 28" they act stiffer.
What 4 digit number is on your Legacy shafts?
yep, just order 60-65lb spine at the full length. The spine will still be 60-65 at 28" length. If you need to allow an inch more than your draw length on the arrow to 28 1/2" long the spine will still be fine.
If it is a long bow I would go with the 65-70# spine, spine is not based on 28"s it is 26"s and 13" centers with wood shafts, that is why guys buy 35/55 carbons and see they are way stiff for their 50# bow because carbons and alum. are measured with 14" centyers to determine spine. You do not change the spine by cutting you change the dynamic spine. I would say with 28.5" arrow to go with the 65-70 if the bow is of moderate to to high R/D than they will work well, if it is of litle R/D or straight limbed than the 60-65's would be the ticket. I agree with Shawn. I tried the 65-70`s out of my 64lb. Hill style long bow at 28 1/2". I just never could get them to fly right. I screwed around for a couple of hours and then I shot a 55-60 at 27 1/2" and it flew dead on. I was not real happy with myself for listening to the "experts" on this one. I would try a test kit or at least get a couple of shafts from the 3 spine weights around your bows weight/ draw lenght. It may not be the limb shape as much as to how center shot your bow is. The less "window" on yor riser the more the arrow has to bend around the bow when you shoot.
My longbow's riser is almost like a recurve but it doesnt have much reflex deflex. I think I'll use your guys's advice and go with the 65-70# spine thanks a lot for the info.
