Title: Opinions on a '58 Kodiak (sowbelly) please
Post by: Migra Bill on August 06, 2008, 10:25:00 PM
Was looking for input on the '58 Sowbelly. I know the early 58's were just like the 57's and the latter 58's were the "sowbellys". I know that the "white glass" on the sowbellys were not very popular and that they were discontinued. I was looking for some input on their "shootability". Great shooters, good shooters, crappy shooters.... ready .... GO!

I have a 50# Sowbelly that shoots great, but it's white, What the h*** was Fred thinking?  It's white, a white hunting bow. Geezzz.

I think it was a ploy to sell camo limb covers.

I think Trap is correct...no really I thought they were for hunting polar bears in the snow....but as shooters I think they both shoot great. The early 1958 ie 1957 forms is a bit faster then the later 1958.The later models had a bit straighter limb then the early 58-57 models. And were not as fast, but again not being as fast my equal a better shooting bow...but I think both shoot real good, well for me anywho........bowdoc

I had a sweet later model '58 that was a great shooting bow.  Like others have said, the '57 is faster, but really it's like comparing a Victoria's Secret model to a JcPenny.  Sure, the first gets ya h..., err, is nicer to look at, but they're both gorgeous.

I don't understand the white glass either, but a bunch of the non-target Bears have white limbs also.

The early riser-like bowdoc said-is a different bow. I have a 52# early riser and compared to a 51# sowbelly the difference in arrow speed is way more than what you would expect from that small difference of one#.
The sowbelly is smooth and stable-but not as 'crisp' when you release.
