Here is an interesting one for sure. Left handed 1959 kodiak, 64" and 97#. 26 strand string. (http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z134/Horney_Toad/kod-1.jpg)

OUCH!!!!!!....that hurts just thinking about trying to shoot it.
-
I can't even string it. It is like trying to string a 2x4.
-
I couldn't help but be reminded of the SNL skit of the guy sitting in the bar talking about a local legend by the name of Bill Brasky!
I can hear it now. That Von J.Johnson was a stout sumb*tch! I once saw him kill 3 mule deer with one arrow from his 97# Kodiak Bow! Here's to Von J.Johnson! Glasses raised.
I remember when this one was on E8bay. My groin muscles and family jewels thank God daily that I was not high bidder! CKruse

Oh no my left on just dropped! :biglaugh: Nice bow and cool pics.
-
If you ever decide to get rid of this(maybe due to hernia :) ) let me know, seriously.
-
Nice bow where did you get it? Will you sell it? Marlon
-
I'm not asking if he's going to sell it. I figure he never will unless... If he injures himself with it I just want to be first in line. I know banks won't lend for motorcycles older than '95, I wonder what the cutoff is for bows! ;0
-
Well it'll be an awful lot of work on all sides to make it happen, but if you get it to me I'll take that bet. not only to string it, but I'll even try the shuttle :D That's how much I'd just like to get my hands on this thing!
-
I wonder if it cost twice as much as a normal weight bow....It looks like it took about twice as much material to make it ;)
I'd love to watch someone shoot that Monster....String it up and make us a video Jeff.
I agree with Cam, I bet Von Johnson was a stout MOFO

In case you were wondering about my earlier reference, enjoy! This is about "R" rated so don't click on it if you'd be offended. SNL clip

I bought that bow off the auction site for $595. I have been offered $1000, but passed.
The lady that sold it was in Colorado. She sold it for the Johnson family. She was a really nice person, we still stay in touch. The owner Von Johnson, was very ill at the time and has since passed on. They say ole Von was a huge man with broad shoulders and a small waist. He hunted in Alaska and Colorado. I aso bought his double shelf 55 Kodiak, 83# which I sold.
Here's to you Von Johnson, you are more of a man than I'll ever be.
-
you guys need to stop teasing me with them LH 1959 Kodiak's looking for one for my 50 th. birthday for next year

-

-
Hey bowdoc, check out the pictures.
-
Oh yeah I was checking them out....those bows were built for real men...Thought I would add a pic of one I am just about finished with....1966 lefthand Bear Kodiak 60" check out the draw weight.....bowdoc (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii175/bowdocsarchery/66001.jpg)
-
Hey Doc,, How does it shoot?
-
That is a man's bow, LOL!
-
cool!
-
Oh yeah she's a shooter for anyone thats got the balls to shoot it.I don't think the new owner ever shot it,but it for sure had been shot quite a bit.The strike plate and arrow rest had a good amount of wear..I had a 94# static tip Kodiak at one time and my red meat eating buddy Jason shot that one several times....were talk smoken fast on the old static tip.......bowdoc
-
Must take a good man to string those bows, much less pulling it back!
-
Speaking of all these heavy weight bows,I've got a 1959 Kodiak that is marked 123#,the heaviest I have seen so far. It's a lefty also which I notice alot of these heavyweights are.I've also got a 90# 1960 Kodiak,left-hand and a 1960 Kodiak Deluxe that is 100# but it is a right-hander.Makes you wonder who all these heavy weight lefties were.
-
If memory serves me right, which it probably doesn't, I believe there was an article in one of the magazines of the time, where Howard strung a 100# bow while setting down, on his 60th birthday.
We're all a bunch of wimps.
-
I have 98# highlander longbow.100# bobby loften recurve,105# bobby loften longbow, 135# bobby loften recurve, 150# bobby loften recurve broke,Acscx 150#,140# howard hill longbow,150# howard hill longbow, 160# howard hill longbow, 170# norther mist longbow. 2 english longbows flight 110# 140# two warbows 115# 148#.3 frank stein monsters well over 200#, Marlon
-
Marlon, thats a nice list of true wappons you have! Regardless what wimps and pussies may have to say, I like it :notworthy:
Any pics available of you shooting those monsters? How do you solve the shaft/spine problems you obviously must have?
-
I actually got my 95# Damon Howatt Hunter strung. It was a battle.
I could not get it to full draw, but I figure that at half draw I would be shooting 45#
-
what really makes it rare is the riser design Bear used in the higher poundage bows. Most collectors call them "wedge site windows", and they were generally over 75# draw weight...
-
Chuck
Do you have pictures of a wedge site window? or anybody?
Kurt
-
Kurt,
Look at the first page of this thread :)
-
Duh, Thanks Jeremy
-
man oh man all these heavy bows!!!! im in heaven! anyone want to sell or trade?!?!?!?!
-
I am sorry Marlon, but I just do not believe you have an ACSCX at 150#. O.L. Would not make them much above 60#. He made me a 72#er and said it about killed him to string it said he would never make another that heavy. Not calling you a liar or nothing but just do not believe it from what I know of O.L.
Danny
-
Pic I will sent you. Look at OL bows go to the Flightshooting site. Cheers Marlon
-
Marlon,
dispensa me! I am amazed. I notice O.L. states the "we are guessing the bow to be 140#+@28". You sir are a man if you can pull and shoot that weight accurately. Congratulations on the record.

Yes I shoot my bows well. Thank you Marlon
