I wish, has not snowed here in 5 years
its been snowing and sleeting here since friday
Yesterday I got done blowin' leaves. Today I woke up to about two inches of snow imagine that . Just in time for the six day firearm season starts tomorrow.Lucky Dogs.
We are expecting 6-10" tonight, anyone else want it?????
David
I'll take it
We got about 2 inches and then a nice coating of ice. Ice was pretty, it melted off this morning. Snow is still around. Best thing was the power stayed on.
Snow on the ground, 6 day firearm season, & my bow in my hand.... gone have some fun.... just came in from a walk & trax all around my stand & ground blind where brother-in-law will be....
Better believe it brother!
Snowed down here as well on Saturday. Probably got 5 inches, but then we also got freezing rain and sleet. It's like Mother Nature's way of saying "Welcome to December" :)
In Mississippi,we get excited when we see frost. :notworthy: :notworthy:

All I know is if woodchucker is warming up for the bunny hunt I'm going to break his knee caps! :bigsmyl:
Eastern Nebraska along the Platte River. The snow will be gone by tomorrow but Dec. 1 we got 1/4"+ of ice and then early the morning of Dec. 2 we got a little snow on top of that starting just before dawn for a couple hours, during which I killed this doe. However, rather than a tracking snow, it turned into a track-covering snow. But it was a heart-shot doe and traveled only 45 yards maybe so it was not necessary. What a gorgeous day to be afield.

BBB - went out yesterday afternoon with the snow-camo on. Had acouple of close encounters, but no shots taken. Really like late season with snow.
We are working on our Sat. night traditional shoots at the United Sportsmans club , call me next week and I'll beable to give you the details.
Nothing but rain...and more rain...here in Western Washington with rivers reaching flood stage and high winds. :(
But we still have power.
Yep, I love snow when it's in the woods, but having to drive in it...that's another story.
Warybuck, I've seen a few mornings like the one in your pics, where everything in the woods is white. Breathtaking to say the least, and surreal looking. Nothing man made can touch that.
Gus, will do, or I'll just come by your shop cause I took off this thursday and friday. I'm not familiar with the United Sportsmans club though.

Great pictures! Are those Reindeer?
Awesome pics Trad Man! A moose drive?! :scared:
Yes,, there Reindeer,,
There are to-manny Raindeer in Lapland,, and a while back,, the Sami,, stated selling tags for hunting Raindeer,, to help control the numbers, and rais money for the upkeep of the bountry fences, ect,, i cant remmber what happend in the end,, but i dont think it was very popular,, due to them not being 100% wild,, because several times a year, the Reindeer Hurders/ Sami, gather up the reindeer and count,, cul,, mark them ,, then just release then back in to the foest to look after then selves,, there definattly not tame,, but you cant really say there wild,, and i think thats why the Reindeer hunting never took off,,
But i dont actually now,, what the rules are,, eg if your still alowed to hunt them,, ect,, beacse each one is owned,, by a hurder,,, so if its not become illegal,, i imagen you could pay a herder to go on to his estate and hunt one, but i really dont now,,
im going to look in to that,,
but they are amazingly beautifull animals,, i love seeing them,,
And yer ,, Driven Moose hunt,, Great ~Fun,,
James
yeah. Gotta love it here in lapland. Just on thing I need to correct. Bow hunting is not illegal here in finland. one can hunt animals up to the size of roe deer. Whitetails may become legal within some time but they do not live in lapland so I don't really get any profit from that. Moose will not become legal any time soon, which is a shame.
Missäpäin lappia asustelet?
Total darkness can only be in a place where humans are human.
Wouldn't work well here in most parts of New York.
(http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b242/hdc123/DSCN0995.jpg)got this last night, want some???? we are suppose to get more tonight
oops sorry about that (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b242/hdc123/DSCN0994.jpg)
We received about 8 in. yesterday, and one out in it on team the first time yesterday also it's great to get snow this early in our season, it be nice to have an earlier, but I live in Minnesota, last year for the entire year we only received 28 in. that was in the metro area way up north I think they got more, this past late spring we moved 20 mi. north, and I hunt 30 to 50 mi. north of where I live. Makes a difference, the metro got 3 in. less than what we did, but the good news is we got 35 more coming Thursday, and more coming Saturday, so it looks like it'll be a good tracking year, and it will also be good for the deer herd, will have stronger deer.
I'll put my hunting experience as a new thread
" scared stiff up a tree"

Aloha All,
Believe it or not we got snow here one the Big Island. A storm front blew in and dumped a bunch of snow atop Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Rangers closed the road to the summit because of 5 to 6 foot drifts. Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa have an elevation height of 13000 plus feet. Us in da low land got drenched with heavy rain and pummeled with wind gusts up to 50 plus.
On da positive side, the snow will drive the chuckars down a bit and maybe dis weekend I might be able find and shoot a couple of slow flying half frozen birds.
Aloha,
Mark

I may have some opportunities to visit Sweden with my job. Through work I've made a few friends from Finland. I hope to make it up for some fishing sometime. Perhaps I'll try to explore the northern bush there one day and bump into some tradgangers!
good luck to Sweden, ALL forms of bowhunting are illegal there. Not too many of us traditional hunters here in lapland (finland). Mostly all the hunters exept for a few of my friends laugh and make fun of my equipment and say that "you know,
there was a smart man about 1000 years ago who invented gun powder". Usually I reply: Yeah, because he was a terrible shot with a bow.
A usual comment is also: Can you kill a moose with that from 350 yeards. I reply can you stalk a fox to 10 yards. Most people are just making fun of us here and belive me, I have had a few times I would have wanted to shoot the other guy with a blunt and a 60# bow and ask: Hey, why are you not making fun of me anymore?
But this is just the way things go around here.
