Title: 1958 Bears
Post by: BobT on July 18, 2008, 10:34:00 PM
I posted an add in the classifieds a while back looking for '58 Bear bows to commemorate my 50th. year. The members here came through BIG TIME! Here are the ones I have come up with so far

As you can tell I'm not the best photographer but here they are. Top to bottom Polar 49#, Alaskan 56#, 64" Kodiak 49#, Grizzly 43#, and 60" Kodiak 43#. The rack they are on is not a permanent home but sort of a prototype. I'm going to make another one from maple and dress it up a little. I have a few more to go but I am happy with my progress so far. What do you all think?

I love them,  The maple riser Bears are what bows are supposed to "look" like.  Awesome start to a meaningful collection.  I bet they all shoot great too.

You're addicted now.  You may as well collect a full set to commemorate your 51st year as well.

Nice looking collection!
I've been keeping an eye out for a '58 KSpecial for you, but honestly, I'm not sure I can tell the difference between it and a '57  :)

Have you shot the Grizz much?  I have a 51#er that I can drive nails with.  It needed a bit of a repair when I bought it, but man what a classy recurve  :)

Thanks Trap, I don't think the 51st. year thing will work. I'm getting pretty low on play money and I still have a few '58s to go.

Danny. I cut the bow rack out from pallet lumber I got from the pile at work. The pegs are just 5/16" hardwood dowels from the lumber yard. It will need some adjustments on the peg spacing but will hold 16 to 24 bows depending on limb width. I can send you the measurements or I can cut one out and send it to you. I have a big project going on right now so it might take me a while.

Jeremy,
I have shot the Grizzly some but not a lot, I gotta get a new string for it. The Alaskan is rapidly becoming a favorite, quite a shooter.

Yellow Bow,
I don't have a string for the Kodiak yet either but I expect it will shoot pretty good. I need to send Raineman the bow measurements so I can get them strung up and start shooting them in earnest.
