Title: trade?
Post by: kurtbel5 on April 18, 2008, 12:02:00 AM
Hey all,
I have a chance to trade a 1960 60" 60# kodiak refinished a few years ago by bow doc, not perfect any more, for a 1967 h101 black widow looks in pretty good shape. So would this be a fair trade value wise?
         Thanks for any input

is a 67 widow h101 worth $800.00-$1,000.00?

More importantly, is it worth it to you???

Personal choice of bows....Eather one of them are great bows...Value wise..any 1960 Kodiak that is still solid and shootable is one of the prize of prizes for Bear collecters...The 1960 Kodiak will still comand more money then just about any other bow on the market today..I know of someone that just sold a 1960 Kodiak 55# rock solid shooter but not mint...1,200.00.......pretty good sale there......bowdoc

If you're serious, it depends on; Do you already have another quality '60 in your collection, how much do you have in the '60,60#,60" (rare bugger right there), is the H101 white or brown glass, the weight of the 101 and how bad do you want/need it for your collection. You know better than I do 'doc that we all make trade-offs and have to assess our overall collection quality, value, etc. and manage it accordingly. Not a good trade from a value perspective but it might be good trade for you emotionally.

I must have not been paying attention!! last I looked $500 to $600. $1200?? holy mackeral, I did ok with this one.
I guess I need to make a shrine or something for it.
Doc this is the one with a quiver bushing that you did for Bill Lavoie.

Thats one heck of a hard shooting 1961 there Kurt.I think Bill was sorry he let it go.Heck 1,200.00 was nothing on a real good 1960...When things were really selling really good ??? I saw a well known collecter and I would rather not mention his name...Pay $2,400.00 for a 1960 Kodiak which was also 60 inch 55#er..Thats about crossing the line for me.......bowdoc

I don't know Rich,I've worked on several bows for the P&Y museum that are insured for over 10 times what they were insured for prior to me restoring them. But some of the collecters only want mint originals for thier collections. As for value again,I gotta say what the market will bare or bear...I've restored 20 or so super kodiaks for resale and did OK on them too..bowdoc

On the other hand, a restored classic is worth MUCHO more than it was worth when it looked like it was drug behind a car through the gravel in a  parking lot.
