Title: Shakespeer Recurve
Post by: StickArcher on March 31, 2008, 11:49:00 AM
Hi everyone first post.  I have a Shakespeer Recurve, 56" 65# @ 28".  I know it is from sometime in the 1960's.  Kaibab ( looks like a stag ) is on the limb and as well 701345R.  Maybe someone knows something about this bow.

The Kaibab was made from 67 thru 71. 1967 and 68 were 58 inch. 1969 thru 1971 were 56 inch with black glass. The brace height should be 8 inches. The logo you mention is the common buck head logo Shakespeare had on most of there bows of that era on the back of the lower limb. Good shooting bows. Should be a fine hunting bow in that heavy poundage.

If you want to narrow down the year some more, all three years 69 thru 71 had laminated Shedua wood risers. 69 had black glass and possibly no overlays on the tips. 70 had black glass with white tip overlays and 71 has black glass with white and black tip overlays.

Looks like I have one from 69.  I just had it rebuilt because of some stress I noticed and along with that some work on the grip.  Should last another 40 years.  Any idea of the value of this bow? Not looking to sell just curious.

I would say 50.00 to 75.00 would be pretty close. Obviuosly a little more if condition were minty.
