The first traditional bow I ever purchased was a 1967 Fred Bear tigercat 43lbs @ 28". I still have it. It has a Zebrawood riser with brown glass limb lamination's. The bow does not have a scratch on it. I was thinking about trying to find one with the black glass limbs in about the 55 to 60 lb range. My question is for you guys that have experience with this stuff, would a bow from that year with black glass be hard to come by. I guess I could start with the auction site?

Anytime you are looking for an exact model, in an exact year, with an exact glass collor, in a narrow weight range (especially in the heavier weight range); it is going to be hard to find.
With that said, you could also get luckey and find it the first time you try.
However, 55 -60# in and Bear model will be hard to find, I think Bear made more 45# bows than anything. Hunting bows anyway.

I love tigercats too. Looking on eb-ay for years I can tell you that tigercats 55# or more are very rare. Most are 40 to 45#. Zebrawood and bubinga were common for the risers, and brown or black glass. Some also had the lighter tan glass. I think the tigercats had random glass colors, but those are the most common.

My tigercat sure is a shooter. Does anyone know how long they made that model? The grip "fits" me better than most Bear bows I have shot.

Where made from 1964 to 1970. 64 and 65 had yellow glass poundage to 50 pounds. 66 year had assorted glass color and riser woods to 50 pounds. 1967 had tawny brown glass assorted woods to 50 pounds. 68 had black glass to 50 pounds. 69 cinnamond brown glass to 50 pounds. 70 last year autumn tan 58" lenght to 70 pounds. After 1970 they went to the black bear that was the same style riser and limb. they where black glass to 65 pounds. 50 pounds and higher in any year are hard to find. They started as a target model and then both target and hunting. The black bears can in both 58" and 52" in 1979 Hope this is some help.
