Topic should say Kodiak Dogleg. (http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/KPYtrad/DSC_0012.jpg)

That is an especially nice dogleg! The bubinga really flashes at you.
Most were rosewood and not as nice as yours. IMO anyway.

1963 Kodiak. What's the weight on that one? I recently picked up an excellent condition 60# to add to my group. That wood is what Wade Phillips calls "calico bubinga". Bjorn, African Rosewood is also called Bubinga, but the 1963 catalog lists it as Bubinga. I've seen the burled stuff on several 1963's including the Polar model. Beautiful bow, CKruse

Thanks guys, the wt on this one is 44#.I've got a polar with similar calico bubinga.

I think I know where you got that Polar! The same guy you got a 67 K-Hunter from in Missouri- Me! CKruse

1963 Kodiak- Bubinga riser (African Rosewood)
Don't be scared to shoot it Paul. The 60" model is safe, It it the Type I & II 62" Kodiak Magnum that was a problem in '63.
In my opinion, the '63 & '64 Kodiaks were the best shooting bows that Bear ever made.
That is the Bow that Papa Bear used to take his Tiger,
Great shooter, great collectors bow. Great find.

CKruse: You are correct! Still have both of those bows.I shot the '67 Kodiak hunter yesterday, one of my favorites.Took it turkey hunting with me this spring.I thank you.

I got a 1963 in 55#.It's a great shooting bow.Not as nice looking as yours though.Thats a dandy ya got there.bd

I have a 55# Dogleg in Ultra mint condition. It is the only bow that I keep in a bow sock.
The bubinga is irridesect in the bright sunlight. B-U-T-ful. I also have a 40# & a 45#. Those two don't come close to Paul's bow though.

KPaul, last I knew Don (bowdoc) could supply you with a replacement for the original strikeplate that's hard to tell from original. It matches the zigzag shape of the 63 risers and was used on the Kodiak, Grizzly, and Type I and II K.Mags. It would finish that beauty off nicely. CKruse

Thanks for the info.

63s are my favorite. I have one of each model including all 3 type kmags. I have a kodiak refinished by the Bowdoc. Wood is not as pretty as that one. But I have a Tamerlane with knock your socks off wood!
