What is best for traditional practice points on primitive arrows. There's 38 cases, trade points(these don't seem good for practice), fire hardening. With fire hardening, without the weight on the front won't it throw the balance of the arrows off? I'm not trying to build lookers, I'm wanting users. Any help would be welcome

The Southeastern Naytives use to "fire harden" their cane arrows, and from the accounts I have read, those arrows killed just fine, even to the point of peircing through heavy leather and chainmail on the Spanish explorers. Of course, there is no mention of the bow poundage, I'll bet it was heavy though, that's back when "men, where men" !! I have never tried it though.
Depending on what the shaft is your using, you could, if you wanted, glue on modern field points. There is not a set "target point" for primitive arrows, that I'm aware of any way, meaning, as they did 200 years ago.
There was different points used, but they all had one thing in commen, they were ment to kill.
Maybe if you post this on the "Pow Wow" section, it would get more thought, and a few more answers. Not that the folks who watch this section would'nt have a good answer, it's just that the pow wow section would be seen by a lot more folks.

Howdy Steve, I have read with interest the post's of guy's who use stone points on their arrows. My passion is indian artifacts, and I have a room full of arrowheads and other artifacts, and the points that were on arrows were very small. The American Indian was a super tracker, poke a hole in a critter and run it down. The abos hunted in groups mainly, with drivers spread out and standers in the choke points, weather natural or man made. Guy's seem to be wanting their primitive stone points to be as sharp as modern blades. All the cultures in the America's used bone for arrowheads. Maybe try to make the heads out of deer leg bone, you could get them almost the same size and weight. Alot easyer and you can get the bone super sharp. When I figure out how to post pic's on here, I will show true arrowhead's and blades that were used as knife's.
