Post by: PastorSteveHill on December 01, 2007, 12:25:00 AM
Longbow guys, I pull 29' on the button with a Longbow/ would you go 64 or 66' ? Why? Thanks for any input!

Depends on the bow, reverend,  If it's a Howard Hill, I would say 68''.  If it's a Robertson Vision 64 would work, but you may like 66'' better.  For most hybrids 64'' should be fine.

If in fact you were going to go with a Hill, you should talk to Craig. He will steer you in the right direction. I pull 27" and have both the lengths you have listed, i would think the 66" would be better for your longer draw length, if we were talking Howard Hill's that is.

Personaly, if a bow comes in more than one length,I will always take the longest.
Simple,,the long bow will always draw smoother than the short bow, plus it will be less likely to stack at what ever draw length.

I like my 66" Robertson. I draw 29.5, I wouldnt go any shorter. Also shoot a 62" Robertson hybrid. Bow design make a difference.

With out a doubt talk to the Bowyer. He knows his bows and he wouldn't steer you in the wrong direction.

Steve,
You must have long arms to draw that length, I draw 31" but my knucles drag the ground. I shoot an Ancient Spirits Mountain Ash 62" 60#@31" and it draws all the way smooth and no stack. It's a "hybred" for sure. I also shoot a Big River 66"52#@28" that shoots just as smooth. I think you can use a shorter bow with the severe r/d design with alonger draw as opposed to a straighter limbed bow. I need a longer bow in a straight limbed or they stack on me past 28". Just my personal opinion.

I have been shooting a 66" longbow made by John McDonald (Big River Bows).  I love it.  It is a magic bow for me. No.  I don't hit everything I shoot at, but... Just ....feels like a bow should feel.  I shoot it while stump shooting in as many God Awful, contorted ways that I can. I have not found it's length to be any sort of problem while doing so.. or hunting... with one exception.  It is not a "portable blind" bow.

I feel the little bit of extra length makes it feel just a bit better in my hand.

A large part of a bow is not just how it shoots, but how it looks to you and how it feels to you, and even, how it makes you feel.

Everybody has different needs, desires, feelings.  With luck you will find the bow that is right for you, but don't base that too heavily on what is right for me.

PastorSteve-
I draw about 31.5-32" and shoot a 64" Big River Longbow...  As the others have said on this post, these bows are definately worth looking into.
