Title: Bear Kodiak Special- Help?
Post by: Ray Hammond on January 15, 2007, 08:15:00 PM
Serial number is A then under that XW76-5 64"  47#

Has that caramel colored glass on both sides with beige looking silk screened logos (cannot see decal edging in light anyway so I suspect its silk screened) Tips are typical light/dark contrasting material, original leather wrapped handle.

Anyway to tell what year it is and what it is worth by the description? Finish isn't perfect..its been used, but there are no cracks in limbs, no holes in riser, nothing coming loose, and it shoots great.

I've got that same bow Ray in a 66" 64#, and the research that I did led me to believe it's a 1957.  The 1958 was the same bow but with Maroon silk screens and  maroon/white tip overlays.  Mine has the beige silkscreens and black and white tip overlays.  Not sure on the going price however.  I think these tend to be undervalued by the collector, but they are very nice shooting bows.  I bought mine on ebay for $69.00.   Best deal I ever made.

Ray,
The butterscotch colored glass is a tip off that it is a 1957. I believe and have been told 1957 is the only year that "flavor" glass was used. I too have a 1957 with the butterscotch glass back and belly. I bought this bow when I was 16 from one of my dad's friends in 1959 for $25. I've had it ever since.
They are not speed demons, but are very stable and good shooters.
