Post by: Kingstaken on December 29, 2006, 02:30:00 PM
Wondering if anyone knows who made this bow.

Bow says  Wing "The Traditionalist" on the bottom limbs with typcal info in handle.
69" in length and have a light green color on both the face and back, the handle is wood with the light green B/F.

I think AMF too...there was an article about the Wing history in a Traditional Bowhunter magazine, not long ago.

Can anyopne tell me what is the history between Bob Lee and AMF / Wing Archery?
I have spoken to Charlotte Lee who said this is not a wing bow, but obviously it is and not from a overseas manufactured copy.
When did they stop making this bow?
I have two left hands one at 58# and 66#.
They are brand new condition never shot from what I can see.

I don't think it is AMF.

Bob Lee had Wing Archery and he sold to AMF, who about two years later sold to Head Ski Co. somewhere aroung the mid '70's (or Head Ski had it first and sold to AMF).  I don't think lasted more than about 5 years for both companies combined after Bob Lee sold it.  In any case I don't recall them making a bow with that slender a riser.  Looks more like a longbow riser, but I know there are some recurves made like that today.  It very well could be a more modern bowyer that picked up the Wing name.

The way the word wing is written is not compatible with AMF or Head ski.  They used the same old Wing logo as Bob Lee did but had "AMF" or "division of Head Ski Co" under the word wing.

Every once in a while you would see a blond take down bow on ebay called a Red Wing Hunter, but I don't think that was AMF or Head Ski either, so other bowyers do pick up defunct names that have a good reutation.

It is an unusual situation and you have two of them.  Where did they come from?

Made by World Archery Enterprises, Inc., 468A Washington Ave, bellville, NJ - circa late 80's.
They also marketed Yamaha & Shibuya bows.

My understanding is that they bought the rights to WING after AMF dropped the line. Of course, Bob Lee has since re-acquired it and is currently marketing Wing bows.

Further, I seem to remember that Buddy Stamper & Jim Ploen of 21st Century fame actually fabricated the bow. You might know that Buddy & Jim came from Wing before they formed 21st Century.
