Title: 63 Dogleg?

So many bows are repoduced or copied...why not the 63 Kodiak Dogleg??

I have one and it is a fine shooting bow...any repro's out there?

I agree, it's a sweet bow. I'd buy a repro of one.

Why buy a reproduction of a '63 dogleg when there are so many available used.  You see them often on ebay.

Some folks feel that these are the ones with the crack up problems.  They are not.  The 60 Kodiak dogleg is a very solid shooter and one of the best hunting bows that Bear ever made.  In my opinion, second only to the '64 model.

The dogleg with the crack up reputation is the 52" Kodiak Magnum Type I.  THese had serious problems.  The Type II were a little better, but still had problems.  The Type III solved the problems and are solid shooters.  I know of No problems with the 60" Kodiak doglegs, as long as they have not been abused.  Now this holds true for any bow.

If you can find one in decent shape, they are just as good or better than anything you can buy new today.

I would expect that you can pick up a used one for $300.00 or less.  A reproduction made by a decent bowyer will cost you a lot more, and then you will also have a collectors item.

Sound advice, Jack...no doubt...

I just passed one on Ebay that went $255ish...not bad.  I will likely keep my eyes open, the one I have is an excellent bow and adding another would be nice.

The reason for the repro would be to see how bamboo limbs or the newer materials might add to an already great design...plus it gives me a reason to buy a bow.     :help:

Nothing wrong with havein a reason to buy an older colelctible bow, either.

Someone makes reprodictions of the '59 Kodiak.  They call it a KADIAK.  As far as I can tell, they are not as popular as picking up an original, but a lot more expensive.

The '63 dogleg, the '64 Kodiak, and the '59 Kodiak are considered by many as the best hunting bows that Bear ever made.  I don't know that more modern materials would improve on them.

I kinda agree...I was shooting the 63 last night and man is it nice.

I may start another thread, but have some questions about a Herters bow...do you have any expertise there?  It's a one piece forward handle design that is a really nice shooter...has a raised shelf, like a built in "stick on" rest...neat design that performs really well.

I have no Herters bows, but I know they are great shooters.  The ONLY thing I don't like about Herters bows is the ugly mustard colored glass they used on many of the hunting models.  Other than than I always thought they were nice looking, great design, and good shooters.

I know of some guys that colelct only Herters bos, but I know little about them.  Start a thread.  You may hit someone that knows.  IF nothing else it will be interesting conversation.
