Title: Grimes Chief ?? Pics Added
Post by: Tom I. on October 23, 2006, 06:10:00 PM
I have an old bow that the only marking is Grimes Chief.  It has a cast aluminum riser that
has double arrows shelfs for either left or right hand use.  The limbs are wood and fiberglass laminates. It's 61" tip to tip.  Anyone have any info on the company...who? when?
where?  Anything would help.
Thanks
Tom Ireland

1950's-60's Pontiac, Mi. They were made in the attic of a hangar at the (now) Oakland International Airport. They made all AL riser and AL limbs and AL risers with round fiberglass limbs and flat wood fiberglass limbs.

There's not a lot more info out there. A friend of mine used to play with bows in the attic with the bowyers son.

If you come across an all AL bow DO NOT SHOOT it. They have a history of coming apart with no notice. The AL limbs fatigue and just explode with no signs of damage.

Hey,Dan, Thanks...the one I have has the flat laminated limbs.  The only readable markings on the bow are it's name and a number written on the edge of the limb...looks like "6284", which I'm assuming may be a serial#.  I'm going to post some pics of it because I think it's an interesting bow.

Profile of handle/riser. I think it's a pretty cool looking bow.  I've strung it with a string that measures approx 56 inches which give a 7 3/4" brace height.  I'm not sure this is the correct string for it or not. It feels like it's pulling about 45 lbs at my 26" draw length.  If anyelse has more info about these bows, i'd appreciate hearing from you.
