Title: Just got my black widow video
Post by: rappstar on November 30, 2007, 06:45:00 PM
i ordered my black widow and i got a video in the mail today...basic stuff for the most part.  the most interesting was the guy (the owner) who walked thru tuning your bow.  was shooting bare arrows (no fletching) to demonstrate and eliminate the nock left/nock right/nock high/nock low.  He theng got into after you get the fletching on and so forth....

stupid question, why in the heck do we have fletchings on our arrows?  the way he described it, you only need them to maintain the corkscrew after 30 yards or so.  maybe i am wrong and should watch the video again!

Try shooting a broadhead without fletching, and you'll know why you need it.

I was kidding....  Don't really do that, the result would not be a good one.  :scared:

Maybe it WOULD be a good idea to leave the fletching off our practice arrows.  It sure would tell us about any little error we might make in our release, and knowing that we probably wouldn't find any arrow that went in the weeds without bright fletching to look for would sure encourage us to focus hard on every shot!

I know it was mentioned not to shoot bare shaft with a broadhead, but I don't think anyone said why.

On a bare shaft (no feathers), the broad head "catches" air and steers the arrow. That is not a good thing!  Feathers counteract the planing or "steering" effect of the broadhead helping it hit the target.

sounds like buckeye is right on the money.

i have, after bareshaft tuning my equipment,
screwed on a broadhead in place of the field point and it shot exactly where the field point did and arrow flight was good. I think this is due to the fact that the arrow was the proper arrow for the bow (which you find out thru bareshaft testing). I would hate to see what a broadhead on an improperly spined bareshaft would do, i bet it gets crazy on the way to the target!
