Title: Pics of my Catawaba collection
Post by: JohnJohn on December 28, 2005, 01:41:00 PM
In my first post I mentioned that I had a small collection of Native American artifacts.  Some of the members asked that I post pictures so here they are.
All of these artifacts were found in the Catawba valley in Blacksburg, VA on my grandmother’s farm.
The only heads that were not found locally I highlighted in yellow.  They were found in New Mexico and are real artifacts.

I know what all of the pieces are except for the long, round pointy piece as well as the large knife like piece.  They looked to abnormally shaped to be natural but I could be wrong.   If you have any ideas please let me know.

By the way I also found several round stones approximately 12"-15" across by 7" wide in a creek bed with 5 or 6 slash cuts/indents across the tops.  Any idea what they would have been used for?

JJ, I found a stone like that in Conn about 30 years ago. I was told it "most probably" was used to "sand" arrow shafts. I gave it to a museum then.
