A couple of years ago I picked up this bow at a pawn shop for $70. Ward's Westernfield Special Hunter. 62" and 50# @ 28". Brown glass. Limbs were not twisted and the finish is in good shape. I had a local shop owner tell me it was made by Pearson for Wards in the 60's. Does anyone know if this is correct or have any other info on it?

Brian, That is a nice looking Indian bow - only thing I see wrong is that the shelf is on the wrong side of the bow :bigsmyl:
TTS, Thanks, I'll do some searching and see if I can find a Cougar to compare it to.

Brandon,
I have a Cougar at my shop at the UofA. I keep it there to work on my form.
There's a web site with most of the Pearson catalogs from the 60s & 70s. I'm sure there are some here that's familiar with the site.

 shelf on the wrong side???!!!!????!!!!
let Me tell you a little thing I learned.... scientist proved that the 2 halves of the brian {ie left/right} work the opposite sides of the body. so ONLY left handed people are in thie RIGHT mind :bigsmyl:
Brian Parton

Brian,
I guess I'm not in the right mind...funny thing is my wife tells me this all the time. Now I can tell her scientist have proven what she has been saying all along. :bigsmyl:
My 11 year old daughter is left handed but has been shooting right handed. She is left eye dominant and I am trying to get her to start shooting left handed . I think she will have it easier with shooting instinctively if she shoots left handed being left eye dominant.

Jim, you mentioned your shop at the U of A...is that Fayetteville or Little Rock or one of the other branches? Reason I ask is if you are in Fayetteville then I am just up the road from you. Maybe we could get together sometime to put some arrows in the air.

Raghorn,
I tried the website but looks like he is updating it and I see lots of stuff on other older bows but nothing on Pearson yet. I'll check back soon and see what has been updated.
Thanks for the info.

Brandon,
UofA Fayetteville my home away from home for more than 20yrs.
We will try to get together and sling some arrows.
Do you shoot 3D?
There's a fellow trad shooter here in Fayetteville who is attempting to start a trad only 3D club. If you're interested, I will send you a survey.
After comparing your bow to the Cougar, there's some differences in the grip. It looks like a Pearson bow, but I'm no Xpert.

TTS,
Glad to know you are close by. I'd be interested in the trad club you mentioned. I have not shot any 3D events but would like to give it a try this year.
Maybe we can put your Cougar beside my Wards and do a live comparison sometime to see if there are any differences.
Send me an email at [email protected] and we'll try to get together some and do some shooting.

i have a bow just like that-it was given to me by a friend.......we thought it came from MONTGOMERY/WARDS DEPT. STORE...in the early 70's....shoots pretty good

Hello w.tim,
I like this one too. From what the shop owner here told me, Pearson made these for Wards. Maybe I can find an old cataog one of these days. That would be a cool thing - frame the page out of the old catalog to hang near the bow.
