What are you seeing fellas and where will you be opening day? Not the area of course, just the elevation and the terrain.
I've been up to the mountains eight times this summer. I've seen 11 bears and 13 pigs while scouting. I've mostly been hiking and glassing white oaks. I've found some loaded white oaks at any elevation over 2500' but most seem to be higher. I found a good many last week on a LOOOOONG ridge from 3400-3900'. The red oaks are already dropping and all the critters up there were wearing them out. The white oaks I have seen have just now peeked green out of the cap. I'm hoping they'll be mature enough for the bears to climb for by Sept 14. This is my second year chasing bears up there but I've been putting the boot leather in and I think it should pay off. I had some awesome close encounters last year, even killed a pig and (sadly) put a tree shark into a nice bear's shoulder.
So for those with a lot of experience, will they be climbing those white oaks in a few weeks or still sitting on the ground raking up red oaks? This extremely late spring really throws a kink into some planning.

I think you'd get more responses if you move this to PowWow.

Killed a 200 pound sow today in a red oak. Walk and walk and walk until you find the acorns and the bears will be nearby.

How was everyone's season? Any luck? I scouted Cohutta several times before season then after hearing about all the vehicle break-ins, I never went back..

We saw a lot of bears. Mostly small. Three of my buddies got shots but didn't bring any bears home. I'll be scouting em all summer and ready to hit em in september again.
