Hello,
Any group hunts planned this year that need an extra member? I'd like to cut my teeth on pig hunting with a little bit of help.
-
I'm in.
Sign me up coach.
-
OK, so let's go at this another way. We need to get 8 guys to do a group hunt. It's over for this year, but we can plan on next winter / spring (after local deer seasons end)...
Sound good? Let me know and if we get some interest, I'll set it up.
-
What dates are you looking at?
-
I'd be interested in this. Sounds like like fun.
-
I was thinking sometime around january-february. Let me get in contact with the ranch and see what they say. Chime in with any preferences guys...
-
Keep us up-dated.
-
all depends on $ but I want to go too!

All right! I've gotten the proverbial ball rolling along for a group hunt. I'll keep you guys posted. Chime in with any date restrictions for February / March so I can better acoomodate all of us.
-
Sounds good is this going to be the $300 do it your self or the Simi guided hunt. Im in eather way.
Here is a little teaser from Tejon Ranch. March of this year:

I am in just give the date and how much, and if your interested I might have someone who could video some of the hunts.
-
I'm good for this do-it yourself hunt...just say when.
-
All right! I got the dates. We are tentative for march 12, 13, 14 (Fri, Sat, Sun) at this point. If I can get enough interest, then we'll ink it. There is no minimum number, so that;s not an issue, but I would like to get at least a few of us up there at once. Max is 12.
We'll be hunting the southern portion of the ranch, camping, and self-guiding. They will help us figure out the land and the pig movements on the first day, along with an orientation.
I have a descent sized wall tent that can sleep 4 guys, so if anyone needs the space they are welcome.
Please let me know via PM or with a responxe here if you are "in", and I'll think of it as the old fashioned hand-shake. In a few weeks Tejon will send me a packet with forms for each of us and I'll distribute them to you to get the official sing-up - aka - to pay.
The cost is $300 per person.
This should be a good time! Thanks for the interest.
Jim
-
Iv'e started my own little "PIGGY" bank, putting a few dollars in each week, so it won't be too hard to put together $300.
-
Those dates are good for me
-
All right guys...I have the registration packages from the ranch. I'll send a PM to each of you requesting an address.
We have PLNETY of time (march 1st!) to get them back, and hopefully we can recruit a few more along the way. We have room for 10 guys.
-
Update:
To all who sent me addresses, I havethe packets sealed up and I'll get them in the mail in the next couple days.
I screwed up on the message above with the price. It is actually $375, NOT $300. Sorry about that. I hope that does not put anybody out.
So far we have 7 guys that are getting info, and max is ten, so we have room for 3 more, assuming nobody drops out.
Thanks,
Jim

No problem, can't wait!

-
I am very interested if you can firm up the dates I should be in. I have a busy schedule with the wife and daughters and always want to be thoughtful and make sure I won't walk on any family plans.
I am pumped just thinking about the trip!

-
I would never have guessed we would be short of hunters. That ranch is fantastic! Come on guys get your stuff in.
-
I am in. Looking forward to it!
-
Ok, so that's 7. We need one more!
-
Hey, packets went out today for me and Willys! We are in!!
-
Ok so what do you do if you kill a hog? Field dress then take home in a big cooler or is there a nearby facility to process the meat? Some of the pictures of the ranch look steep and rugged enough that you might want to just bring your knife and fork.
-
YA it can get rough. There is a processer in Bakersfield that a few people use, a guide may have some info on that before we start the hunt. I have only been on the ranch once. As far as what the ranch would like you to do, that will more than likely be covered just before the hunt. The one i took last march i just quarted up and put in an ice chest.
-
Well it looks like we have the 8 needed, here is our group, March is comming up quick, cant wait.
1. Jimikinz
2. Wtpops

Get ready, cause it's comming! Won't be long now. Start walking and getting in shape, you'll need it.
-
Sorry for not posting for a while but I'm afraid the work situation will keep me from going - darn it!
-
All right! one more week....Anybody want to carpool? I'm coming up from San Diego.

-
It will be hard to sleep tonight.
-
How did you guy's do?
-
The last I heard was Friday Morning, and as yet nobody had any pigs down.
I ended the trip with one close encounter and no shot.
I was hunting with Jeff, and we had a long and frustrating last morning trying to locate and wait out a gut-shot pig. I'll let Jeff tell the story since it was his pig....the end result is that I learned a LOT about what not to do!!
Other than that, it was warm, then cold, then rainy, then snowy, and then hot...all in one weekend. I tell ya, that pig hunting is FUN STUFF!!!!
I'm goin back for sure.
-
Sunday morning early Jim and I are working a hill side. Jim going across the top and I was about 1/4 of the way up when I hear something coming from my right and down the hill. Jim has bumped a pig that is going to run right past me. The pig comes thru an opening in the brush about 20 yards uphill from me,stops and looks at me. I don't remember drawing the bow but I remember releasing the string and the pig lunging ahead just as the arrow arrives. Perfect elevation but to far back. He runs down the hill with my arrow sticking out his side. I am stoked! I realize it was a poor hit but I had just stuck my first pig. (first anything bigger than a ground squirrel)We wait 30 minutes then start looking.
The pig is laying in the bottom of a steep draw obviously still alive and with the arrow still there. I decide we should back out and go to the truck for coffee and give the pig 2 hours to improve our chances of recovering him. Longest 2 hours of my life. We go back to the draw and the pig is still there and still alive. The wind was steady up the draw so the plan was for Jim to go up and around to the other side for a shot if I missed or couldnt get a shot.I waited what seemed like for ever for Jim to get in place before heading down the draw. Now I'm about 40 yards from the pig when he jumps up, snorts at Jim who is about 15 yards uphill from the pig, whirls around and runs off never to be seen again. We looked hard for him but no luck. It was a great hunt, exciting heart pounding kind of stuff.
-
I had a great time on the hunt. Hunted with some great guys. I had my opportunities on the first night. Saw seven pigs. I should have shot then because I didn't see another one the rest of the weekend. We found some awesome areas that I will go back to in the future.
-
Looks like a great hunt
