help a new guy. I have a 55# mamba and shoot 2117's. i bought my wife an old York recurv 38# at 28in. when i shoot the 2117's they are fishtailing. should i get diferant erras or is this a tuneing problem.
let me try again its the york i have trouble with. the mamba shoots great
I would say that the 2117's are over spined for the 38lb bow. I do not know alot about aluminums but I think that 2117s spine at 90 or 95
Mike
Does your wife draw 28inches or less? If she draws a full 28, I would try some 1916s if you want to stay with aluminum. From there you could try different point weights. 1916s may still be a little stiff, but they will be a lot closer than 2117s. If you can find them, 1816s might be even better. Good luck.
thanks for the info fellas. I'll try those diffrant erras out
Check her actual draw length before you buy the arrows. it could make a significant difference in which arrow spine you need.
her draw length is 27" when i measure it but it's between 25 and 32 when she shoots. I remind her of her anker point and her elbow and her back and thats when she tells me to shut up and let her shoot the d@#$* thing!
Try some 1816s cut to 28".
Let her alone when you shoot with her, and keep your back to her so she can study you a bit without your knowing it. If you muff a shot, just say, "Dang, I plucked that one" or whatever you did, so she can get a feel for what to look out for.
I think the biggest fights in some families occur when one member tries to teach another one how to do something. It messes with the dynamics of the relationship. I generally learn better from books or observation, myself. Maybe watch a shooting video with her, but don't get all teacherly and explain down to her what is going on. Just learn with her and puzzle it out together.
Killdeer
thats waaaaaay to stiff for your wifes bow
i'd try som 18 or 1916's for her set up
Killdeer is right with then 1816's. I have played with these for some time. Good little arrow
St.Epic eastons 600...cut 29 might work also!! If ya want to shoot carbon! mark#78
You may even need a 1716 depending on her actual draw length.
el oso : I have some 1816's I will send you if you pm me your address :0) Thanks Drew
I shoot 1816 well out of my 38# bow. Good man for getting your wife a bow. I think alot more ladies would shoot if they had a bow to fit them.
Kate
This was my 2nd post and I already got in trouble. I started it on the shooters forum and then i couldent find it. but i'm learning. thanks to everyone for the help and for putting up with a no spelling new guy. p.s. killdeer i know that your right but sometimes i just cant help my self .
el oso, take drewsbows generous offer, If they are 28 or 29"s she will not be able to draw past that and with 125 grain point will shoot well for her. She will be amazed at how well they shoot for her compared to the 2117s. If ya need points or a tab for her let me kow and I will send them for nothing. Shawn
hey Shawn thanks. I PMd Drewsbow on the erras and I'll let you know on the points. I set her up with a tab and a glove so she could choose. everyone on this site is so cool I dont know why I waited so long to join except that I am the ultimate lowtech redneck.
John : I sent the arrows out today and they will be plenty long enough :0) Drew
Your the man drew! My wife is excited but now she's mad at me for makeing her shoot the wrong erras in the first place.
Drew, got those erras in this evening, they look great! my wife hasn't seen them yet but she is gonna love them pink cock feathers :goldtooth:
Glad they made it ok , the white nock needs glue , just stuck it on to ship :0)Drew
