The sooner You skin them the better.

Cut off the front feet. Cut the tendon on the back foot twist the foot to the inside of the leg until it pops then cut through the remaining cartilage.

Make a incision across the back mid-way on the body big enough to get a couple of fingers in the cut. Insert two fingers from each hand and pull opposite directions. Hide will pull into two pieces.

Pull until you expose the neck and tail. Cut each off and pull rest of hide off of the legs.

Make a cut through the anal cavity all the way to the neck and remove inards. I cut into 6 pieces:

2 front legs
2 back legs
ribs and neck
back

This is how My grandpa showed me when I was a kid. Do one or two and it becomes second nature. I do rabbits the same. Hope this helps.

There are a few different ways to do it. I cut the tail through from the bottom side above the anus leaving the skin on top holding it still attached. Then put your foot on the tail and pull upward with the hind feet. Pull until the head and front legs have been skinned. This will leave the skin on the rear legs and forming a V on the belly. Grab the point of the V and pull rearward taking the skin off the hind quarters and legs. Cut the feet and head off and toss away with the skin. Only thing left to do is gut.

This takes longer to type that doing the job!

Bergie,
Do a search on this cause a few years ago I watched a short video clip of an older gentlemen that was a game warden or something and he could skin a squirrel in about minute with out a hair left on it...Somewhat the same way Mr. Bill just discribed...It's quick, simple and most of all clean...

I like the tail cut method - be sure to cut all the way through the tail, as close to the hams as you can; you want to have a nice wide piece of skin to get started on when you pull.

Skin them when they are still warm.  Makes all the difference.  Bill's method is what I use.  Only takes a minute or two.

Bergie,
2 squirrels skinned in less then a minute = 30 seconds a squirrell...That's a new world record there..Let's see if anyone can do a 15 second squirrell skin...That means 4 squirrells in 60 seconds...   :biglaugh:

JMartin, I believe that IS the OLD way. Grandpa taught me the method back in about 1946!   :)
