Title: Shorter longbow for a 30" draw?
Post by: Bob Stager on November 25, 2007, 11:01:00 AM
Is anyone out there making a shorter longbow for my draw length? I am thinking of doing more ground hunting and would like to use a shorter bow. I am looking for a longbow with a recurve grip that doesn't stack,is smooth drawing out to 30",and has low handshock. Will finger pinch be a problem? thanks for the help  BOB

I'd start with Ron LaClair shrew design. Ron has long arms and could give you good advice.

There are a few more bowyers making simuliar designs.

I hunt from the ground exclusively and my draw is just over 29 inches, and I prefer a 68inch bow. Never had any issues with it's length in regard to hunting from the ground. No problems from natural blinds and no problems just walking through the woods.

So, what do you mean by a shorter longbow? Shorter than what? For me personally any bow shorter than 66 inches has too much finger pinch for my taste. But hey that's me.

good luck in your search.

I draw 29 1/2" and my 62" Savannah shoots great for me.  Very comfortable with no finger pinch.

A 7 Lakes if ya can find one, or  Roy Hall Cherokee, they will handle 30"s at the 62" bow. I am sure they Centaur will handle 30"s with a 62" bow, come to think of it there is a lot of LB's out there that will do it at 60-62"s, if ya get dow to 58"s than the list will narrow ad I mean narrow a lot. I know some guys that think a 66" longbow is short so it depends on what ya think. Shawn

I have spoke to Ron(several times) and no way the 56"er will work for ya, the 58"er will get ya close but he even says ya better go at least 60"s with a 30" draw. Trust me, ya can call him and talk to him as I have. Shawn

Griffin or shrew in a 60 incher will work for ya.I draw 30 and they work well for me.Had a 60 inch Centuar that worked well to no doubt.currantly shooting a Thunderhawk recurve thats just awesome at 30 inches.best I have shot for a 30 inch draw in a short bow.I would not go less than 60 inches in my experience

I draw 29" and my 58" Horne Brush Bow doesn't pinch or stack.  For a full 30" draw, I'd guess you'd have to go to a 60" bow.

My 64" Thunderstick MOAB is smooth and comfortable at my 32" draw. I'd think a 62" MOAB would be perfect at 30".

I am shooting a 66" Stewart Slammer now, but would like a 62"-64" 3 piece takedown with a medium recurve style grip.i have a 66" Silvertip longbow that I like a lot but after two shoulder surgery's it is to heavy and it can't be taken down anymore. Thanks BOB

Shawnee Dakota with an A riser and the limbs that make it a 62 inch bow would be nice for ya.The A riser is pretty short so you will have a pretty good working limb on that bow at your draw.I had one and it shot nice at 30 inches draw.
