Title: A new pc. of ground....and it looks good!
Post by: Guru on November 25, 2007, 07:29:00 AM
This new property is loaded with sign like this(all pix are of diff. trees). These were taken just on my way back to the truck. Just a sample of what's there.

I've missed the peak, but hopefully I can get a couple hunts before the season ends at the end of Dec. My job has about killed my hunting season this year. I was supessed to go today, but I hurt my back yesterday at work and could hardly walk this morning!

But I've always wanted to kill a big buck in the late season...maybe this year.......

This area is well known for "slobs" trespassing and unfortunately, this spot was no different. This guy's not only trespassing, but he's also baiting the deer...the land owners and authorities have been notified, and the area is now being monitored......

a few more....

Like I said earlier, I know i've missed out on the best time of the year, but hopefully I'll get a few hunts in late and kill a big ol' buck in the snow

At least I have a great spot to look forward to hunting next year!

Curt that is some piece of property! Good Luck! I know how you feel with the extra work load. This was the first in five seasons I can actually count the amount of times I spent in the woods on two hands instead of one. You'll get that big boy! Man I can't wait to see these pictures and maybe a video? You know there's nothing like a blood trail in the snow. There 's always the second rut to look foward too if your season works out.

Curt, I'd say you got a good one there. Maybe a nice buck or three! I bet you'll get your choice in late season! Let us know if you lay eyes (or hands)on the bad boy that is tearin' up those trees! Good luck! Mike

Curt is this a bow only zone, or did you find a honey hole in the middle of the anything goes zone? I have just received permission to hunt a little honey hole right down the street from my place. All i can shoot now is does but i have been seeing some nice ones there. Around here when everyone gives up and the weather turns cold those big boys start to move again, good luck your spot looks very promising. I hope your back straightens up it's awful hard to sit still when you have back trouble. Don't ask how i know that.

Holy cow Curt. That's a mature buck doing that. How many acres?

Question: is the bait pile illegal? (other than the trespassing issue)

Bent, I can still count my hunts on one hand.

Doug, If I could, I would.

Jim, archery only area.

Bfin, That's my newer 56" Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk, 57@28...a real sweetheart for the cold, late season. First time I've put aside my 62# KS, and I really like this lighter # in the cold.

Mickey, Baiting is very much illegal in NYS!!

I really feel as though I've missed out this year.I've had permission to hunt this spot since the start of the season. But because of work and family I just couldn't make it down before last week. I couldn't believe what I was seeing as I scouted. These pix are just a sample of what's there. Some rubs on the other side of the property where bigger than those pictured.

I should have some time to close out the season in this area...keep your fingers crossed for me.....

Nice spot Curt. Look for a heat up in early December secondary rut. Should be a travel corridor between the rub sets you mentioned. Good Hunting!

first thing I'd do is get a shovel and bucket to get rid of the bait or tell the local CO about it before someone thinks it's you. Good Luck Curt, I have no doubt it's just a matter of time till we see the hero pics.

Curt, ya may not of missed all of it. Ya got to get out there, they are still chasing pretty good. I think the weather and the moon phases screwed with the rut, which has given it a trickle effect this year. If ya need help, give me a call!! I passed quite a few young ones this year. You know that is not like me!! I may go a year or two without a buck, but when I get one it should be a good'un!!  Let us know how ya make out or like I said Call me, I can   :bigsmyl:  !!! Shawn

still plenty of hunting left curt.  go get'em

for the first time in several years I actually got to hunt quite a bit this year both in CT and MA and in CT I've seen about 10 deer total (north easter ct) just couldn't connect on the one good shot op, and in MA I've hunted a ton and finally put a doe in the freezer back in october.  hadn't seen another deer in the Ma woods until this past saturday...thought for sure I'd killed the only freakin deer on the property...

Hey Curt, do me a favor. In the second picture about a hundred yards straight east of that rub,
I left my bowhook in a hickory tree with double trunks. Would you get it for me? It's one of those triple bending job and cost about $20. I hate when I do that.

Ahhhhh....Westchester. That's where I started to bowhunt back in the early 50's. I still have high school buddies that hunt there. It's amazing to be able to see the NYC skyline while you are in a tree stand. Good luck, Curt, cherish the opportunity there are some awesome big bucks there. My wife saw the biggest buck she has ever seen right on one of the exits of the thruway. He was with about 10 does feeding on the roadside.

Sure looks like you got his bedroom nailed down.  Late season can be such a test of will power, but he is likely there somewhere.  Go get him Curt!
