I just thought I would see what every one els shoots for hunting arrows my arrows come in 12.5 grains per pound 700gr CX Heritage shot out of my #56 @28.5" A&H ACS CX not sure how fast but got pass through on everything so far any way whats your set up? thanks,Coyote2<><
Mine seems to always come out around 9.5-11 grains per pound.
Right now, I'm shooting 580 grains out of a 58# @ 29.5" Kim Sha longbow.
Mike
Ash Shafts 60-65#@27"BOP 160grn points with 3-5.5" nana's total weight 627grn
Shrew 54" 52#@26"( my draw )= 12.06grn per pound
I'm a low-tech, math-challenged hunter, but I can say that I shoot the heaviest arrows I can shoot accurately from a given bow out to 20 yards, and try to make them as front-heavy as possible. Since I build wood longbows, which rarely come out the same weight and rarely stay that weight after a few hundred shots, I wind up with many-dozen arrows. Just more pointless "information," like the daily news. dave
I hunt with 12 grains per pound.I like a heavy arrow and close shots.
Somewhere between 8 and 10 gpp.
55#@28" recurve shooting 600gr arrows= 10.9 gpp. I shoot targets with the same arrow weight so when I hunt with them there isn't any adjusting. The old K.I.S.S. theory.
I shoot 10 to 12 grains per pound of bow draw weight with carbon, wood and/or aluminum shafts. A heavy arrow is quiet and great for hunting.
... mike ...
Same as Mike I like them around 10-12 GPP, my shots are close any ways.
Between 10.5-11.5 grains per pound depending on the bow I'm shooting.
My arrows normaly weigh between 7.5 and 8.0 GPP.
I like a few above am on the low end,, I like 8-9.5 grains perpound. right now I am shooting 9gpp. on the button and I like the way they hit. It has been proven as of late that an arrow with a lot of weight up front will penetrate better than the same weight arrow without the heavy load up front, so a 9gpp. arrow with 175-225 upfront will penetrate as well as another arrow weighing 10-11gpp with only 125 grain heads. Shawn
I shoot just under 11 grains per pound I Shoot 590gr out of a 54# BW PSA it is a sweet shooter. I went up from 570gr to a bareshaft tuned arrow weighing 590gr and I shoot between 185 and 187 fps from a lighter untuned arrow at 178 to 183fps. So a tuned arrow will help penetration.
I try to stay at around 10-12 grains per pound of bow weight. Mike
I'm setting at 13.25gpp shooting a 625gr 31"bop POC arrow out of a 47# recurve. Now when I get my FF string I should be able to shorten my arrow, and that will drop my gpp. but I like 10-14gpp w/heavy foc.
Currently shooting Heritage 150s @ 11gr/lb but I also have some Bemans that are just under 9gr/lb. I can't really tell much difference in trajectory until I'm further away than I can shoot accurately anyway so I'm hunting with the heavier ones.

Although I'm sure its a good guide....I've never really worried too much about it. I care more about arrow weight.
I have been shooting right around 530 grains for years for whitetails and small game whether I'm shooting 60 to 70 pounds. I really like 630 grains for hogs and big game, whether I'm shooting 60 to 70#s. Has worked for me for over 2 decades, and way before I heard about 'grains per pound', with 4 blade Zwickeys...and as of late, the bruiser buck I shot with the Zephry Sasquatch AK 'The Flying Hatchet'.
If I had to shoot a 40# bow, I'd still want the 530 grain arrow....not the 400 grainer....and I'd probably switch heads as well to a narrower 4 blade for deer and a narrower 2 blade for bigger game.
been shooting about 13.5 gr/# out of 46 to 48# bows at my draw. These have 400 gr up front 300 gr Asgir heads and 100 gr brass inserts.
Currently shooting 630 grain arrows out of my 50# PLGA, so it is around 12.6 GPP.
480 grains out of my 52# bow, seems to work just fine!
Right at 10 grains per lb. 550 grains out of my TFVX pulling 55 at 28"
Howdie Mel!...how ya been sir?
Doing good, been busy with family and these Kansas Whitetails!!!! By the sounds of it, your fall has been very productive!!
Yeah.....got lucky...stay after em bud!
My ACS is about 47# at my draw and my woodies weigh 600 and a bit more sometimes; but I try to keep it under 650 grains.
around 800gr out of 60-64# bows when shooting my Forgewoods. 680 gr Carbonwood 4000 out of my Morrison,63#@28". Only bow I shoot the carbons out of cause it likes them better.Using Mohawk Magnum I 4 blades. Wicked head.
Danny
I've got a decent full range of light, medium & heavy. All my bows are pulling between 58 & 61# at my 30" My arrows are;
CX heritage 250 at 650gn
Beman MFX 400 at 600gn
GT 5575 at 550gn
All with 100gn inserts & either 150 or 200gn points. Luckily, I can shoot any of the arrows out of any of my bows, with any combination of 150 or 200gn broadheads! They all fly like lazers!
GMII 51@29 GT XT hunters 35/55, NAP broadheads total 350grains, 201 FPS.
Terry,
Are you using the Sasquatch as a "2 blade" or with the insert as a 4 blade?
For me I prefer to set up my bows to shoot a trajectory that works for my eye. So I always start out with an arrow that was about 650gr total weight. Currently the set up I'm using has me shooting a total arrow weight of 722gr which puts me at around 14gr/lb at 51lb at draw.
im shooting a little under 440 gr at 57#
lighter than most of you, so far it's shot through 1 out of 2 deer ive killed with it.
Shooting 69 lbs. with a 710 grain 2317 loaded up front. Hits like a Freight Train.
9 1/2 to 10 shootin a 60lb widow recurve and arrows (cedar and aluminum) between 560-600 grains, penetration is not a issue!! and still shoots pretty flat.
10.3 is what I shoot.
8 to 8.3
Steve
