Anybody shipped a bow to Oz? According to USPS, max length is 46", and the bow I'm sending is a recurve that will require a 60" package. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Definately cant ship over 60" length to New Zealand. Not too sure about Australia but the usps website will give you the dims once you go through the info to check it. Customs may reject it if they don't measure or catch it at the counter and it could get returned back to you and out your $ for it.
Since May we found out that usps changed alot of rates including dimensions to international and specific US destinations you may want to try ups also but may cost a huge rate. good luck.<><
I recently sent a 66" longbow by Fedex to Melbourne for $116.00 from the San Francisco area.
Rick
Thanks, Rick. I'm getting quotes of $147.00 from them, which I think is highway robbery. I'm amazed that guys in Oz would even buy bows from us here in the states.
Thanks for the help, all. Anyone else?
I have had several didjeridoos shipped FROM Australia to the states and they were all over 60". I can't imagine why you couldn't do the same backwards.
The only other alternative is to get someone who is going over to take it as luggage. I'm going in July, but I would guess you don't want to wait that long!
Too Short
Thanks for the offer, Paul. I'll check into the didgeredoo thing. Do you recall what the postage was?
If it is over 60" max length you can't ship USPS.I shipped a bow to France that was 72" long and it was $122.15 from UPS and it arrived in 6 days with no problems. If it was under 60" I could have shipped USPS priority for $38 to $40.Big difference in price for over 60".
Yeah, looks like the length is the killer. I'm surprised that foreign archers don't all shoot takedowns, if they buy them here!
Yep, FedEx or UPS for longbows, lads.
Somebody hit the nail on the head when they wondered why anybody in Auss would buy a bow from the good old USofA.
I have wondered that too myself on many occasions, but I still do. Yes the postage is the killer. For a full length bow it will cost you (well that's what it cost me on many occasions) somewhere between 145-155 US. Not sure on the discrepancy - seems to alter a bit from bowyer to bowyer.
I have had them sent USPS and FedEx and the price is about the same. Daylight robbery of the highest order of course, but if you want a good bow from the States that's what we Aussies have to pay.
However it has all been worthwhile - I now have three awesome bows That I will not part with. It looks as if my search is finally over.
However I try and buy T/D bows now. My Signature B/L which arrived last week only cost about 40 Bucks for the postage - now that is more like it!
Happy hankering - Sutto
